We're seeking an exceptional Staff Platform Engineer to serve as a technical leader in designing and building the next generation of our platform infrastructure. In this high-impact role, you'll architect scalable, reliable systems that empower engineering teams to ship faster and confidently. You'll work at the intersection of data, infrastructure, automation, observability, developer experience laying out the foundations that enable our products to be fully automated, resilient and highly available. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on creating innovative solutions that drive faster delivery of high-quality products, providing improved solutions for end-user to understand how their products are performing, and exploring new and unique tools for end-users to build better.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Architect Platform Services: Lead the technical design and implementation of core platform services and automation frameworks, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service tooling that enables engineering teams to deploy with confidence and speed.
- Drive Operational Excellence: Build and operationalize comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions across the organization. Establish SLOs/SLIs and implement systems to ensure platform reliability, performance, and availability at scale.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as the hands-on technical leader and subject matter expert, mentoring engineers across multiple teams on best practices for building scalable, resilient, cloud-native systems. Define and enforce architectural standards, coding practices, and operational excellence principles.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data engineering, SRE, security, and software teams to support and scale products.
- Build for Scale & Reliability: Architect and implement platform components that handle significant technical and organizational scale, supporting high-throughput systems with minimal latency and maximum reliability. Drive initiatives toward event-based architectures and distributed systems patterns.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve developer productivity, reduce operational toil, and increase system reliability. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, bringing forward innovative solutions that advance our platform capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional experience in data engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or DevOps roles, with a proven track record operating at the Staff or Principal IC level
- Extensive experience building and operating large-scale, distributed systems in production environments
- Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly large-scale usage of Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or another IaC framework.
- Expert-level knowledge of container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) and cloud-native application deployment patterns
- Strong experience with CI/CD practices and tooling (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD) and experience building self-service pipelines for engineering teams
- Proficiency in system programming languages (Python, Go, or similar) used for building internal tooling, automation APIs, and platform services
- Proven experience designing and maintaining production observability systems (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Datadog, or similar)
- Experience building scalable services on top of public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with extensive use of managed services, databases (RDBMS, NoSQL, key-value stores), and distributed systems
- Strong understanding of networking, security, and systems architecture in cloud environments
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and write clear architectural decision records (ADRs)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with AI/ML platforms, frameworks, and APIs, including deploying and scaling large models
- Hands-on experience with GitOps workflows and tools (Flux, ArgoCD)
- Background in event-driven architectures and streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, Pulsar)
- Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Consul)
- Familiarity with security scanning tools for container images, Infrastructure as Code, and runtime security
- Knowledge of FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization strategies
- Experience building developer platforms or internal platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offerings
- Contributions to open-source projects, particularly in the infrastructure, Kubernetes, or platform engineering space
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with rapidly changing requirements
- Track record of shipping impactful infrastructure projects that measurably improved developer productivity or system reliability

Staff Engineer Leadership Expectations
Technical Leadership:
- Drive architectural decisions with organization-wide impact
- Design systems and abstractions that enable teams to move faster while maintaining quality and reliability
- Lead technical initiatives from conception through delivery, navigating ambiguity and making principled trade-offs
- Serve as the go-to expert for platform architecture, consulted by teams across the engineering organization
Cross-Team Impact:
- Influence platform strategy and technical roadmap across multiple teams and organizations
- Identify and drive initiatives that unblock or accelerate work for multiple engineering teams
- Partner with engineering leadership to align platform investments with business objectives
- Build consensus across diverse stakeholders and drive adoption of platform standards
Mentorship Responsibilities:
- Mentor and level up engineers at various levels, from junior to senior
- Conduct design reviews and provide constructive technical feedback
- Share knowledge through documentation, tech talks, and pairing sessions
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, best practices, and continuous learning
Strategic Thinking:
- Anticipate future technical needs based on business growth and scale requirements
- Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations on adoption
- Balance short-term execution with long-term architectural vision
- Contribute to engineering-wide technical strategy and platform vision
Shown below is the lowest to highest base salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the base salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. At Doma, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.This job is also eligible for the following compensation components: Bonus & Equity
The base salary range for this role is shown below:: $132,100 USD - $236,300 USD
