Position Description:
The Research Technician I or II in the Department of Surgery Oncology will be responsible for collecting and preserving human tissue/blood/serum for IRB-approved research purposes, preparation of and handling reagents and buffers, organizing samples and data collection analysis, and assisting in research-related tasks on specified projects. The candidate must be credentialed or able to be credentialed to collect tissue/blood/serum from all local hospital pathology departments.
1 position available. Position will be filled at the Research Technician I or Research Technician II level based on Candidate Qualifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Culture and passage organoids under sterile conditions.
- Perform immunostaining, RNA/DNA isolation, and PCR.
- Maintain laboratory records and assist with inventory.
- Support collaborative projects and ensure quality control.
- Participate in lab meetings and data management.
- Manage, organize, and maintain the Division of Surgical Oncology biorepository.
- Coordinating with providers, patients, and clinical and laboratory research staff to ensure CLIA certification and compliance to ensure quality assessments and quality checks for biospecimens, including clinical research.
- Overseas Biorepository Collaboration Applications submitted to the Division for sharing of biospecimens.
- Create and maintain data for the most current log of biospecimens available for the collection and distribution of specimens from the Divisional Biorepository.
- Collaborate to expand biorepository with additional Department of Surgery faculty (Bariatrics, Colorectal, Organoids) Interact with pathologists and/or staff to collect and preserve human tissue/blood/serum and maintain it in a biorepository.
- Interact with pre-admission and pre-operative staff to coordinate the consenting process.
- Screen hospital OR and pre-admission testing schedules for patients that meet inclusion criteria for all biorepository and biospecimen studies.
- Meet with and consent subjects to study protocols according to Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and University of Louisville IRB guidelines.
- Manage, collect, organize, and analyze data for clinical departmental faculty.
- Coordinate and schedule research activities.
- Organize and prepare queries upon request.
- Prepare and ship samples and corresponding data to researchers upon request according to IATA and University of Louisville IRB guidelines.
- Serve as a backup research coordinator and laboratory manager during weekly clinics, weekends, and holidays.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with cell culture techniques; organoid experience.
- Detail-oriented with good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to follow protocols and adapt to new methods.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
