SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing or Charge Nurse
POSITION SUMMARY:
The overall purpose of the certified nurse's aide (CNA) position is to provide personal care to residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following represents the essential functions of this job to be used to determine if an individual with a physical or mental impairment can perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodation. The other functions listed may be required of all other staff in the position. All essential functions should be reviewed with the Supervisor and new goals established if results are not meeting expectations. This description has been prepared to assist in evaluating various classes of responsibilities, skills, and working conditions. It indicates the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty required of positions given this classification. It is not intended as a complete list of specific duties and responsibilities. Promotes friendly environment working to meet the Skyblue vision and mission.
Provide personal care to residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort consistent with
company policy.
Promotes and supports the greatest possible degree of independence for residents.
Advises supervising charge nurse of resident status at beginning and end of shift.
Contributes knowledge of resident's conditions/needs to resident care plans.
Assists in the implementation of care plans as directed within the parameters of established policy
and procedure.
Observes and reports on residents' conditions, and documents observations as required.
Promotes safe/clean environment.
Complies with requirements of procedures for safe lifting and/or safe transfer of residents per
established policies and procedures.
Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
Assures that equipment is safe, clean, and functional.
Performs incidental housekeeping or maintenance tasks as may be required to maintain a clean,
hazard-free environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
Identifies/secures equipment and supplies.
Contributes to assurance of resident care consistent with accepted standards of care and established
policy and procedure.
Encourages safety to prevent accidents.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Functions within the constraints of established policy and procedure consistent with accepted nursing
standards.
- Communicates in a professional and courteous manner using effective verbal and non-verbal
communication skills with residents, their families, and co-workers.
- Maintains confidentiality of department, resident, employee information, communication, and
documentation as well as compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) regulations.
- Clocks in and out for all working/training hours. Working off the clock will not be permitted at any
time or for any reason.
Maintain compliance with Compliance program and plan.
Adhere to Code of Conduct
These duties are not all-inclusive but provide minimum performance expectations and will be
reviewed in the performance process.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Minimum Qualifications:
o Freedom from illegal use of drugs.
o Freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
o Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a
health care related setting is ineligible for employment in the position.
- Education and/or Experience:
o Enrolled or Graduation from an accredited Certified nursing aide chool and a current, valid license or
registration (CNA) in the state where employed are required.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
o Current certification to practice as a certified nurse aide.
o Current CPR certification desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, nursing/Resident progress notes.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from department heads,
customers (Residents, family members, physicians, etc.) and the public.
- Computer skills required.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Maintains personal hygiene.

Demonstrate understanding of cross-contamination.
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT:
Records data as needed.
Promotes confidentiality of resident information.
Logs onto the system using own password.
Logs off the system when leaving the workstation.
Reports suspected violation of security/confidentiality issues.
Reviews data and identifies trends.

Treats others with dignity and respect.
Seeks feedback.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
- Attends in-service and education programs and attends continuing education required for
maintenance of professional certification or licensure.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee
to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands
or fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance and stoop or kneel.
The employee on occasion will assist to lift and/or transfer residents of varied weights and sizes.
The employee will follow facility protocol on use of mechanical lifts and transfer devices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounter
while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is occasionally exposed to blood or other body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic
or caustic chemicals. Can be exposed to Coronavirus, Hep B., TB, and other pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
