San Francisco, California, United States OpenAI Full time
About the Team

The Marketing Design Team (Design Studio) is pivotal in shaping and maintaining OpenAI's brand identity across all platforms and audiences. We work at the intersection of product development, communications, marketing, engineering, and research—delivering cohesive storytelling and brand experiences.

Our mission is to communicate the advancements and benefits of AGI with beauty, accessibility, transparency, and authenticity. Within this mission, the Web and Digital Experience Team plays a critical role in creating, managing, and scaling web and digital programs that reflect OpenAI's brand and global objectives, fostering company-wide collaboration and innovative solutions.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Copywriter/Creative Director to join our growing in-house creative team. In this role, you'll help define and elevate OpenAI's brand voice across marketing channels, campaign messaging, product launches, web experiences, video, events, and more. You'll work closely with art directors, designers, product marketers, and comms partners to develop high-quality creative that informs, inspires, and builds trust.

The ideal candidate is passionate about creative ideas, has a strategic mindset, a high bar for craft, and a love of language. You can move fluidly between short- and long-form writing. You're energized by creative collaboration—and you know how to bring both bold ideas and rigorous editing to a process.

This role can be based in our San Francisco or New York offices. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:
  • Partner with art directors, designers and brand strategists to concept and develop creative campaigns.

  • Write and edit a wide range of marketing content, including campaign headlines, product narratives, landing pages, emails, video scripts, social posts, and event materials

  • Develop clear and compelling messaging that aligns with OpenAI's brand voice and values

  • Translate technical concepts into accessible, engaging language that resonates with a variety of audiences

  • Collaborate with product marketing and comms teams to ensure messaging is aligned and cohesive across all channels

  • Contribute to the evolution of OpenAI's voice and tone guidelines as the brand grows

  • Help maintain editorial excellence across all marketing deliverables, bringing consistency, precision, and clarity

You might thrive in this role if you:
  • Have 6+ years of experience writing for brands—preferably at a creative agency or in-house at a modern technology company

  • Have a portfolio that demonstrates both creative range and writing craft across multiple formats and platforms

  • Can distill complex information into clear, compelling stories without dumbing things down

  • Are energized by ambiguity and fast-paced environments, and enjoy shaping narratives from the ground up

  • Have excellent attention to detail, from grammar and syntax to structure and tone

  • Care deeply about language, clarity, and creating work that resonates with real people

Bonus:
  • Experience writing for or about artificial intelligence, developer tools, or emerging technologies

  • Editorial or journalism background

  • Experience with naming, brand architecture, or voice/tone systems
