Job Overview
MASH (Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital) is seeking a Cardiology RVT/Veterinary Technician or an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our established and expanding team. This position offers an opportunity to provide exceptional emergency and specialty medical care to veterinary patients in Hollywood, focusing on advanced cardiac diagnostics and management.
In this role, you will assist the Cardiologist with a wide range of diagnostics, including:
- Echocardiograms and Electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG)
- Radiography (Cardiothoracic)
- Holter Monitor and Event Recorder placement/management
- Blood Pressure Monitoring (Doppler and Oscillometric)
- Thoracocentesis and Abdominocentesis
- Vascular Access Procedures
- Surgical/Interventional procedures (e.g., pacemaker placement, cardiac catheterization assistance)
Additionally, responsibilities include precise medication management, filling prescriptions, obtaining lab samples, and engaging directly with clients through phone calls, email, and in-person conversations. Key Duties and Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years of experience in the veterinary field; 2-3 years in specialty or emergency
- Experience in Cardiology preferred
- RVT license preferred, but not required
- Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients
- Provide compassionate care for all patients
- Communicate interdepartmentally to coordinate patient care
- Maintain open communication with staff and doctors, demonstrating a willingness to learn
Technical Skills & Procedures
- Anesthesia: Inducing, intubation, monitoring, and recovering patients after anesthesia. Previous experience preferred.
- Imaging & Diagnostics: Proficiently assist with Echocardiogram setup (patient positioning, shaving), perform diagnostic radiography (X-rays), and place/manage Holter monitors.
- Venous Access: Utilize advanced technical skills proficiently for Venipuncture, IVC placement, advanced venipuncture, and central venous access.
- Calculations: Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.), especially for cardiac medications.
- Patient Discharge: Including basic client education such as medication administration, subcutaneous fluid demonstrations, and explaining cardiac monitoring devices.
- Advanced Equipment: Experience using multiparameter monitors, ventilators, and managing high-flow oxygen delivery.
- Laboratory Procedures: Experience with various in-house lab procedures such as blood gas analysis, PCV/TS, and point-of-care testing.
Knowledge & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of various cardiac medical conditions such as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Degenerative Mitral Valve Disease (DMVD), Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), and various arrhythmias.
- Familiarity with general cleaning and sanitation practices, including isolation protocols.
- Familiarity with Fear Free animal handling and restraint techniques.
- Familiarity with RECOVER CPR guidelines is essential, with proficiency in rapid initiation of CPR.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills. Must have strong listening, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Must have a collaborative approach to patient care.
- Reliable, energetic, and able to balance several tasks at once while remaining calm and positive.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand for up to 80% of a 10-hour shift; Walk up to 50% of a 10-hour shift.
- Sit for approximately 20% of a 10-hour shift.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder height.
- Occasionally climb and twist.
- Perform repetitive hand movements for tasks such as grasping and fine manipulation.
- Utilize all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, hearing), corrected to near-normal levels.
Work Environment:
- Over 90% of time is spent indoors.
- Exposure to temperature and humidity changes indoors.
- Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals.
