Remote, Oregon, United States Foundation Data Full time

TO APPLY: Please follow the directions at the bottom of this overview.

Overview: Foundation Data is an Automotive Data & AI company supporting thousands of Auto dealer clients. Salesforce is the operational backbone of our business — serving as our CRM and powering onboarding automation, account health monitoring, cross-team workflows, and multi-system integrations.

We are seeking a senior-level Salesforce Developer who can take full ownership of our Salesforce environment, refactor legacy architecture, rebuild core automations using best practices, and design a scalable technical foundation to support rapid growth.

This is not a "keep the lights on" role. This is a highly strategic, high-impact position for someone who can diagnose a fragile, inherited org and redesign it into a clean, efficient, well-documented, scalable engine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical owner of Salesforce architecture and development.

  • Audit, refactor, and modernize the inherited org (heavy legacy flows, Process Builders, hard-coded logic, unmanaged triggers).

  • Rebuild critical automations using Apex, Flows, platform events, and asynchronous patterns.

  • Lead the redesign of our data model, integrations, and automation flows.

  • Own and enhance API integrations with multiple external Salesforce orgs.

  • Implement proper DevOps practices: Git branching, PR reviews, automated tests, sandbox strategy, and CI/CD.

  • Establish monitoring, logging, documentation, and regression test frameworks.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineering, Product, and Operations to anticipate system needs and scale efficiently.

  • Mentor and elevate the existing Salesforce developer on the team.

Must-Have Technical Depth:

  • 5–10+ years Salesforce development experience

  • Strong Apex development (incl. bulk processing, asynchronous processing, error handling)

  • Deep experience refactoring legacy orgs

  • Proven success redesigning data models & rebuilding flawed automations

  • Hands-on experience with platform APIs, connected apps, and external Salesforce integrations

  • Strong command of Flows, Triggers, Platform Events, and Queueable/Batch classes

  • Experience creating test classes with high coverage tied to real scenarios

  • Strong SOQL/SOSL skills and governor limit mastery

Architecture-Level Thinking:

  • Ability to take a messy, undocumented environment and create structure

  • Strong understanding of integration design patterns (sync + async)

  • Ability to translate business workflows into scalable architecture

  • Can set and enforce technical standards across an org

  • Understands enterprise SDLC and DevOps

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Confident owning a mission-critical system

  • Comfortable saying "no" and pushing for best practices

  • Experience mentoring or leveling-up junior developers

  • Excellent communicator — able to explain technical concepts in plain English

  • Calm under pressure, especially when issues impact customers

  • Obsessed with documentation and repeatability

  • Proactive, anticipatory mindset — not reactive or ticket-based

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in Automotive, SaaS onboarding, or data-heavy ops

  • Experience replacing work done by outsourced partners

  • Experience in org consolidation or multi-org integration

  • Familiarity with Apex REST services, middleware tools, or event-driven architecture

PROBLEM STATEMENT / WHY THIS HIRE MATTERS

The Situation: We inherited a Salesforce instance built rapidly by an outsourced partner using inconsistent patterns, no documentation, and no best practices. It is currently functional, but technically fragile — many automations break under load, API integrations hit governor limits, and our team must manually reverse-engineer core workflows just to keep the system running.

The Impact: Salesforce is the central nervous system of Foundation Data — supporting onboarding, customer analytics, NCM integrations, measurement workflows, and partner communication across thousands of dealers. As we prepare to triple our scale in early 2026, this foundation must be rebuilt.

What We Need Now: A senior Salesforce expert who can:

  • Diagnose and untangle a legacy system

  • Rebuild core automations using scalable patterns

  • Architect a modern, efficient, well-documented environment

  • Establish discipline around DevOps and change management

  • Lead integrations with external Salesforce orgs

  • Support rapid onboarding and workflow automation for thousands of new dealers

This role is key to the next chapter of Foundation Data's scale. We're not looking for someone to maintain what exists — we're looking for someone to fix, rebuild, and architect what's next.

TO APPLY: Email your response to along with your resume.

Please submit a 1-2 page written response answering the scenario below:

Scenario:

You're joining Foundation Data as the Senior Salesforce Developer / Architect.

You inherit a Salesforce org that:

  • Was built primarily by an outsourced partner with minimal documentation

  • Uses a mix of legacy Process Builders, Flows, and custom Apex

  • No current source control, or consistent sandbox development patterns implemented

  • Has multiple API integrations with external Salesforce orgs

  • Is regularly hitting flow limits and API limits

  • Is mission-critical for onboarding and servicing thousands of customers

In the next 90 days, the business is onboarding 600 new customers, and Salesforce must remain stable while improvements are made.

Please describe:

  • How you would assess the current state of the org in your first 30 days

  • What you would prioritize stabilizing vs refactoring (and why)

  • How you would reduce risk while making changes

  • How you would approach integrations hitting limits

  • What "success" looks like at 30 / 60 / 90 days

Important:

We are not looking for "right answers" or Salesforce buzzwords. We're looking for how you think, prioritize, and communicate tradeoffs.

Our team is looking forward to hearing from you

Benefits:

  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Health insurance
  • Health savings account
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Retirement plan
  • Vision insurance
