Location Highlight
Evanston Corner Bistro is on the ground floor of the Hilton Orrington's Hotel in the heart of Evanston. The menu focuses on affordable contemporary dishes which highlights our fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant features a light filled dining room, an expansive bar, separate private dining areas, as well as an outdoor covered terrace with heat lamps so diners can take advantage of patio season even as the temperature drops.
Job Description
- Responsible for having a strong food knowledge base, as well as a very detailed understanding and memorization of the current menu items, which include all alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as food and specials.
- Must actively use suggestive selling techniques while always trying to upsell our products. Must be proactive in effectively selling beer, wine, liquor, and food to guests sitting in the dining area.
- Communicates all necessary and important information with the General/Restaurant Manager(s).
- Capable of multitasking and working at a fast but thorough pace.
- Conducts the daily pre-shift meeting to learn any important daily information, as well as any other scheduled staff meetings.
- Have comprehensive knowledge of wine and liquor and adheres to all state liquor laws.
- Ensures compliance with all state health regulations.
- Must be enthusiastic and interactive to help portray a friendly, fun, and exciting environment.
- Partner with the Director of Operations on all training program(s) and training guides for their work location.
- Coordinate server sections for the day and maintain coordination while servers are being cut for the day (i.e., bring up recommendations to management for servers being cut).
- Train new hires as needed, with direction from Director of Operations.
- Manage any small issues that arise by customers.
- Act as the first point of contact with guest recovery.
- Ensure any guest issues are documented for the morning management team of any follow-up needs (if issue cannot be resolved during the shift).
- Ensure all fridges are stocked with everything the team may need throughout the day.
Qualifications
- Prior 2 years of experience as a Restaurant Supervisor is highly recommended but not required.
- Licenses or Certifications: ServSafe, Allergen, and Bassett certifications required with 30 days of employment.
- Must be customer-service oriented and have excellent hospitality skills. Must be able to calculate basic mathematical functions.
- MUST work flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
