Position Summary:

The Linden Housing Authority seeks a Part-Time Maintenance & Licensed Exterminator to support general building maintenance operations while leading pest control activities across all LHA properties. The successful candidate will hold a New Jersey Commercial Pesticide Applicator License and will be primarily responsible for administering pesticide treatments—particularly for bed bugs, roaches, and rodents—while assisting with basic maintenance, repair, and upkeep tasks as needed.

This hybrid role replaces outsourced extermination services and ensures ongoing, proactive pest management within the Authority's housing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities: Pest Control (Primary Function):

  • Conduct inspections of residential units, basements, and common areas for signs of pest activity, focusing on bed bugs and rodents.
  • Apply pesticides and other treatment methods safely and effectively, following NJDEP and HUD regulations.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all treatments, service reports, and resident notifications.
  • Store, handle, and dispose of chemicals and materials according to federal, state, and local safety standards.
  • Educate residents and staff on pest prevention practices.
  • Coordinate with management and maintenance teams to schedule treatments with minimal resident disruption.

Maintenance Support (Secondary Function):

  • Assist with minor repairs and preventative maintenance tasks (plumbing, light carpentry, painting, basic electrical).
  • Perform routine building inspections and report any issues requiring attention.
  • Support emergency maintenance response as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Executive Director.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and safety standards in mechanical and utility areas.

Qualifications:

  • Valid New Jersey Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (Core + Category 7A required; 7B preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in pest control, facilities maintenance, or related field.
  • Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) principles.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems and maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with residents.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and access confined or elevated spaces safely.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Part-Time: Approximately 20–30 hours per week, flexible scheduling based on maintenance and pest control needs.
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience and credentials.
  • Work Location: On-site at LHA-managed properties in Linden, NJ.
