We are partnering with a well-established, community-focused natural foods retailer based in the greater St. Paul area to find a dynamic and mission-driven
Director of People & Culture

This senior leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in collaborative, high-touch environments and is passionate about building inclusive workplace cultures. The Director will report directly to the CEO and play a pivotal role in shaping the employee experience across three retail locations.

Job Description

The Director of People & Culture will lead the HR function across the organization, providing strategic guidance and hands-on support in areas such as:

  • Talent acquisition and onboarding
  • Learning and development
  • Performance management
  • Payroll and benefits administration
  • Employee relations and compliance
  • HR data reporting and analysis
  • This role requires a proactive presence across all locations, frequent engagement with frontline staff, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed—including occasional support for in-store operations. The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor to leadership, a coach to managers, and a champion of the organization's values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in HR leadership, preferably in retail, food service, or nonprofit sectors
  • Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely—especially with executive leadership
  • Comfortable with foundational HR tasks and systems
  • Willingness to work in shared office spaces and rotate between multiple locations
  • "No job too small" mentality and collaborative spirit
  • Experience with HRIS/ATS systems (Paylocity preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • SHRM or PHR certification
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Familiarity with employment law compliance (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, etc.)
  • Multilingual skills
  • Experience managing organizational consolidations
  • Strong project management background
