Description

OCI's Compute Control Plane is the central nervous system of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Our services enable customers to manage the global compute resources that power their businesses. We provide high-availability APIs and backend systems that monitor, heal, and scale infrastructure fleets across regions, automatically and securely.

We are looking for a strong engineer to help us build and evolve this platform. You will work on core systems that are critical to the stability, scalability, and security of OCI's Compute service.

What You'll Work On:

  • High-availability APIs for launching and managing compute resources, supported by complex asynchronous workflows
  • Globally scalable systems that operate reliably across OCI's worldwide cloud regions
  • Security-first architecture, including deep integration with OCI's Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform

You will collaborate with experienced engineers to solve challenging problems in scale, security, automation, and performance. Your work will directly support our customers and help shape the future of OCI.

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Nashville, TN. This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will lead the design and delivery of complex systems that are foundational to OCI's Compute Control Plane. You are expected to take ownership of major initiatives from concept through execution, and act as a technical leader within your team. You will guide architectural decisions, mentor other engineers, and help maintain high standards for quality and reliability.

OCI places a strong emphasis on written design. Contributing to architectural discussions, authoring design documents, and participating in design reviews are core parts of this role.

This position focuses on backend service development, with a strong emphasis on scalability, availability, and long-term maintainability. You will work across infrastructure, automation, and production systems that support both internal and external customers.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the design and implementation of backend services that are secure, scalable, and reliable
  • Driving architecture reviews and contributing to broader technical direction within OCI
  • Writing clean, testable, and maintainable code
  • Troubleshooting and improving complex distributed systems in production environments
  • Owning service automation, observability, and operational readiness
  • Mentoring engineers and supporting team growth through code reviews, documentation, and technical guidance
  • Collaborating across teams through written proposals and detailed technical discussions

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • Strong programming skills in at least one major language such as Java, Go, or Python
  • Proficiency with scripting and Linux shell tools such as Bash
  • A solid understanding of Linux systems, networking, and core infrastructure concepts
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, relational databases, and service-oriented architecture
  • Experience building and operating large-scale production services
  • Clear and effective communication skills, particularly in writing and collaborative design

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position.
