About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated and personable Paraoptometric Technician to join our close-knit team at our two-optometrist practice. With a staff of about four people, everyone plays an important role in creating a welcoming patient experience. This versatile position involves working in all areas of the office—you'll rotate between reception duties, assisting patients in our optical department, and working as a tech alongside our doctors. You'll play a key role in helping patients discover eyewear they love while providing exceptional clinical care throughout their visit.

Key Responsibilities

Reception Duties:

  • Greet patients and create a welcoming environment
  • Schedule appointments and manage the practice calendar
  • Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries
  • Handle patient check-in and check-out procedures
  • Verify insurance benefits and explain coverage to patients, including optical benefits

Optical Sales:

  • Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses that meet their needs, style, and budget
  • Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and upgrades
  • Process and track eyeglass and contact lens orders
  • Coordinate with optical labs and follow up on order status
  • Manage inventory and order optical supplies as needed

Clinical Tech Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary testing including visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and ocular motility assessments
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as autorefraction, tonometry, and visual field testing
  • Obtain detailed patient medical and ocular history
  • Assist with contact lens fittings and provide patient education on insertion, removal, and care
  • Prepare exam rooms and ensure proper sanitation between patients
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment
  • Document patient information accurately in electronic health records
  • Educate patients on eye health, medications, and post-operative care

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sales-oriented mindset with ability to build rapport with patients
  • Flexibility to move between different roles throughout the day
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) credential or willingness to obtain certification
  • Previous experience in optometry, ophthalmology, or healthcare setting
  • Optical sales or retail experience
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ophthalmic procedures

Full-time position, Monday through Friday
