Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Athletic Training

Department: Athletic Training

Location: Des Moines, IA

Effective Date: Fall Semester, 2026

Duties:

The successful candidate in the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) will work collaboratively to develop and teach courses in both the didactic and clinical components of the program. The candidate will utilize face-to-face, on-line, and blended teaching modalities to facilitate student learning. Service responsibilities will include but not be limited to assisting with student recruitment, supporting students in identification of immersive clinical experiences, and the reporting and management of student learning objectives and program objectives. They will mentor students in and outside the classroom and clinic environment. A successful candidate will be innovative, collaborative and willing to engage in fostering the collective success of the MSAT program and the Kinesiology and Athletic Training Department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned a Doctorate in Athletic Training or related field (e.g., DAT, PhD, EdD, DSc)
  • Certified Athletic Trainer credentialed by the Board of Certification
  • Current or ability to obtain Iowa athletic training license
  • Possess National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Strong commitment to student success, mentorship, and fostering an inclusive learning environment
  • Desire to work collaboratively with MSAT and undergraduate kinesiology faculty members

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have both athletic training clinical practice and teaching experience. Well qualified applicants will have contemporary expertise in orthopedic evaluation (upper extremity and spine) and therapeutic interventions (modalities), and teaching experience in athletic training education. Additionally, a successful candidate will have experience or interest in teaching undergraduate level motor control and learning and/or care and prevention of athletic injuries. Final course assignments will be determined by the Department Chair and MSAT Program Director based on the candidate's experience and expertise.
