The Behavioral Health area of Hennepin County's Health and Human Services is seeking a Social Work Unit Supervisor to join the Adult Behavioral Health (ABH) Case Management Leadership Team. This position will lead the Forensics Case Management Team, who provide specialized mental health targeted case management services to adults with complex psychiatric and behavioral disorders who are indeterminately committed as mentally ill and dangerous to the public. This team monitors the progress of residents admitted to the Forensic Mental Health Program and are active participants in supporting residents as they transition back to the community. This team also provides court-ordered intensive case management services to residents who reside in community settings, and they collaborate with formal and informal resources to ensure supports meet the person's needs. Regardless of where the resident resides, Forensic Case Managers work closely with the person, their supports, their treatment team, and other team members to support the highest level of community integration attainable. The Social Worker Unit Supervisor will have the opportunity to make a difference in diverse communities and programs, advance health equity, and be part of a department with the mission to strengthen communities by improving the health of individuals and families.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at Hennepin County community sites and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In This Position, You Will
- Provide clinical and group supervision to team members, including establishing and maintaining team dynamics; upholding Hennepin County mission, vision and values; establishing agendas and facilitating meetings; writing policy and procedure; implementing or clarifying workflows; coordinating staff training; assigning work; and providing coverage for team as needed.
- Establish and maintain standards for customer service and quality work through coaching, training, and evaluating performance of staff.
- Address concerns and provide information and support to the individual served, family members, external and internal partners.
- Utilize county databases, quality assurance tools, and other spreadsheets to promote Results-Based Accountability.
- Apply change management practices to engage team members in solutions to address system barriers.
- Engage with community partners and internal stakeholders through presentations, workgroups, and consultation.
- Create, promote, and maintain a work environment where the value of diversity and inclusion is understood and practiced.
- Interact with staff, co-supervisors, and other internal and external stakeholders with respect and create a positive and respectful workplace that is person-centered, trauma informed, and culturally responsive.
- Ensure service delivery is in accordance with program and county policy, core values, and mission; rules, regulations, and statutes governing mental health crisis intervention; and sound clinical practice.
- Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission and core values for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Need To Have
One of the following:
Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field (or licensed as a graduate social worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work) and three years or more of experience as a social worker.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 27 quarter credits or more of graduate work in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, principles of social welfare, and four years or more of supervised experience as a social worker.
Six years or more of experience as a Senior/Psychiatric/Child Protection Social Worker at Hennepin County.
Licensure in the State of Minnesota as one of the following:
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Minnesota Board of Social Work
- Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
Licensed Psychologist (LP)
Access to reliable transportation, and the ability and willingness to travel primarily within the metro area to meet with people in their residential settings or community settings, and to perform authorized off-site work duties.

- Serving people with civil commitment orders.
- Working with Medical Assistance, Disability Waivers, and managed care.
Working with electronic health record documentation.
Knowledge of:
Cultural differences in beliefs and practices relating to mental health, treatment, family structure, and dynamics.
- Government and community mental health response systems and resources.
- Ethics, rules, and statutes related to mental health services.
- Person-centered practice and how it applies to serving people on an involuntary basis.
- Trauma-informed care principles.
- Mental health best practice standards.
- Norms and values of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and culturally specific treatment.
Diversity and inclusion strategies with a focus on disparities reduction.
Ability to:
Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
- Effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds and/or populations who experience health disparities.
- Work well in a group setting, be accountable to the team.
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in work and interactions.
