The Production Supervisor provides leadership, direction, and oversight to production employees in alignment with standard work rules, company policies, and—where applicable—union contract provisions. This role oversees all stages of the production process, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of product and/or fulfillment of customer orders through effective production scheduling. The supervisor is responsible for upholding safety, food safety, and quality requirements, maintaining smooth operational flow, and meeting daily production goals. The position serves as a resource and escalation point for team members while fostering ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance development.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Schedule and assign work to production employees, ensuring smooth workflow and achievement of daily production goals
  • Monitor production activities (e.g., receiving, standardizing, pasteurization, separating, freezing, cooling, filling, mixing, packaging, storing) to ensure adherence to production and quality standards
  • Oversee equipment functionality, cleanliness, and sanitation; arrange timely repairs as needed
  • Promote and enforce safe work behaviors; conduct accident/injury investigations and report incidents promptly to meet rapid-reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and quality regulations; administer operational policies and procedures
  • Supervise production scheduling to meet demand and productivity goals; ensure materials and ingredients are staged for upcoming runs
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiency improvements and cost control
  • Foster positive working relationships; consistently apply work rules, policies, and—when applicable—union contract provisions; participate in resolving employee grievances
  • Communicate effectively with employees through shift meetings and daily interactions
  • Perform supervisory functions such as staffing changes, timekeeping review, performance evaluations, coaching, and training
  • Maintain safe working conditions and ensure compliance with all state, federal, and internal health and safety regulations
  • Follow good manufacturing practices (GMP) and adhere to all regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field preferred
  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food and/or beverage manufacturing
  • Minimum of 2 years of lead or supervisory experience
  • Prior supervisory experience in a union environment preferred
  • Aseptic processing experience preferred
  • Certifications or licenses may be required during employment

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing process flow
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business systems
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, training practices, and personnel management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and support team cohesion
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work positively with others
  • Ability to use independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to follow through on responsibilities
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
