Assistant Grocery Manager

The Assistant Grocery Manager works in tandem with the Grocery Department Manager to provide optimum supervision of the department. He/she fills in for the Grocery Manager as needed, and provides staff supervision. This position shares primary responsibility for the success of the Real Food Store as it pertains to all facets of the grocery department, which include bulk, cheese, frozen, packaged groceries, miscellaneous and refrigerated departments.

The Assistant Grocery Manager helps to receive, stock, and merchandise high quality, nutritious organic and natural foods in a clean, welcoming shopping environment with excellent customer interaction while meeting goals for sales, budget, profit margin and the needs of customers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Purchasing

  • Participate in receiving of products as needed in cooperation with Receiving Coordinator

  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date shelf tags and price labeling of department items

  • Monitor for expired products, shrink according to procedures, maintain shrink and inventory records
  • Participate in inventory counts, identify and remove slow-moving items
  • Maintain back stock at reasonable levels
  • Process customer special orders

Merchandising

  • Work with manager, marketing team and product selection team to create effective store displays
  • Stock and maintain displays fully
  • Effectively sample products to educate and promote them to customers
  • Keep product and shelving clean and in an orderly manner

Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable of products and trends in the natural foods industry
  • Must be able stand and walk for long periods of time, and be able to bend and kneel often. The roll can be physically demanding.
  • Spread sheets proficiency required
  • Ability to do math calculations for pricing and margins
  • Have enthusiasm and motivation for learning and updating product knowledge
