Job Title: Early Head Start Home Visitor 

Report to: Director of Early Childhood Education

Compensation: $45,000 to $50,000 Annually

Status: Full time (Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 5pm, Year-round)

The Early Head Start Home Visitor works directly with families and children ages 0–3 to promote healthy development and school readiness. This role provides weekly home visits focused on child development, parenting education, health, and family well-being, using a strength-based and culturally responsive approach by following the guidelines of the Parents as Teacher Family Engagement curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold. While under the supervision of the Family Worker and Education Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly home visits with assigned families to support child development, parent-child bonding, and family goals.

  • Partner with parents to plan and implement individualized activities that promote physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.

  • Monitor developmental progress and complete regular screenings and assessments using approved tools.

  • Support families in accessing health, nutrition, mental health, and community resources.

  • Facilitate bi-weekly socialization groups that allow children and families to interact in a group setting.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality service delivery.

  • Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field

  • Illinois Gateways Family Specialist Credential – Level 5

  • Knowledge of infant/toddler development and family engagement strategies.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

  • Current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds

  • Consistent punctuality and reliable attendance

  • Receptive to supervision and professional feedback

  • Proficient in basic computer applications and data entry

  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and current auto insurance

Pre-Employment Requirements:

All candidates must be able to complete required pre-hire documentation and screenings upon hire in compliance with DCFS, City of Chicago, and Early Head Start regulations, including:

  • Three (3) professional letters of recommendation

  • Criminal background check

  • Fingerprinting

  • Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System (CANTS) background check

  • Health screening, including a TB test and physical examination

Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. We offer a robust health benefits package. In addition, all staff members are equipped with the tools needed to succeed, including a dedicated workspace, laptop, email, high-speed internet access, and all necessary supplies.
