Primary Responsibilities
The responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive. Based on leadership decisions and business needs, "all other duties as assigned" will be expected.

  • Navigate and work within our proprietary electronic medical record system to evaluate and process patient health information under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Review various types of examination documentation, test results, and assessments
  • Conduct phone interviews with Service Members and Veterans to corroborate information and produce clear, comprehensive, and concise documentation
  • Collaborate with providers, Veterans, and Service Members via the call line to ensure examinations meet regulatory and contractual requirements for compensation and benefit rating purposes
  • Shift focus and multitask while maintaining a professional demeanor to meet customer and provider needs
  • Stay current with contract requirements and use guidelines and licensed support to ensure documentation is compliant
  • Identify emergent behavioral health issues and escalate to a licensed team member when necessary
  • Document test results and support providers and claimants in navigating medical history for disability claims
  • Complete system-generated tasks to process exam documentation
  • Interface via telephone (approximately 50%) and email with contracted providers, Veterans, and Service Members to retrieve required Disability Benefits Questionnaire information and provide education on contractual protocols

Required Qualifications

  • Vocational or technical training in a medical-related field (e.g., Medical Assistant, Health Information Technology, EMT, Medic, Corpsman), or completion of the following four courses: Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Human Body Systems, and Common Diseases. Equivalent education, experience, or applicable military background will be considered
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word
  • Experience working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
  • Knowledge of medical, behavioral, and psychological terminology
  • Proficiency in technical writing, spelling, and grammar
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills, including solid telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to identify lab results and ancillary services
  • Proven ability to interpret medical documentation
  • Availability to work MTWRF 8:00 AM-5:00 PM CT or 10:00 AM-7:00 PM CT
  • Willingness to work a weekend day rotation
  • Dedicated, distraction-free home office space with regular child/dependent care arrangements
  • Access to high-speed internet (cable or fiber optic)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Teams
  • Military experience
  • Background in Home Health or Hospice care
  • Typing speed of 40 WPM
  • All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $17.74 to $31.63 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
