The Role

This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical. Manager Engineering 2 position is in department E86 Nuclear Propulsion - Construction and Process Engineering. Specific area of responsibility is to lead a team of multi-discipline engineers, responsible to provide enginering support needed to deliver the CVN79 and to continue to provide engineering support as the ship transitions to the active fleet. This work will occur at NNS and NOB Norfolk. Once all NNS responsible work on CVN79 is complete, the role will transition back to NNS in support of new construction contracts, supporting backshifts. Specific areas of responsibilities include: 1) Primary engineering POC for all reactor and steam plant construction activities/issues for mechanical/electrical/structural systems, including major components, pumps, valves, fittings, controllers, load centers, SWBDs, etc. 2) Resolution of problems reported on eIR's. 3) Document and resolve design/drawing issues. 4) Develop installation and/or repair procedures/instructions. 5) Support propulsion plant testing evolutions. 6) Interface between construction personnel, Navy, Nuclear test, and the A1B PPPY/LDY. 7) Building a team of engineers.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Experience with the A1B Propulsion Plant and CVN new construction engineering preferred. Ability to work independently and lead a team. Ability to problem solve and project manage.
