African Ancestry Link is a nonprofit organization bridging Heritage, Health, and Home for people of African descent. We use DNA, storytelling, and community engagement to raise awareness of genetic health risks, connect diasporas with their ancestral roots, and promote preventive wellness across Africa, the Caribbean, and the global Black community.

As we prepare for our 2026 50 Days DNA Health & Wellness Challenge, we are expanding our Health & Genomics Equity Board and looking for a passionate, health-minded Social Media Manager to help us amplify our voice.

About the Role

This is an exciting volunteer position for someone passionate about health communication, wellness, and social impact. The role involves managing and creating social media content highlighting our DNA health awareness campaigns, community stories, and educational resources.

We especially welcome someone with a health or medical background, whether in public health, medicine, genetics, nursing, or wellness, who can translate complex health insights into messages that educate and inspire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and schedule engaging posts across AAL's social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok).
  • Collaborate with the Health & Genomics Equity Board to promote programs, webinars, and campaigns.
  • Share accurate and simplified content on DNA health insights, preventive care, and genetic awareness.
  • Monitor trends and engagement analytics to improve reach and impact.
  • Support live virtual events and awareness days related to health, genetics, and African heritage.

Ideal Candidate

  • Background or degree in Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Genetics, Biomedical Science, or Health Communication.
  • Strong interest in health equity, African communities, and wellness education.
  • Skilled in using social media tools (Canva, Meta Business Suite, or similar).
  • Creative thinker with excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Reliable, collaborative, and proactive.
