Virtual Science Teachers Board Member (Volunteer)

Virtual Science Teachers (VST) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides free, high-quality online science education resources to help teachers bring science to life for every student. Through interactive lessons, simulations, bell ringers, and graphing tools, we support scientific literacy and deepen student understanding in ways that are engaging, accessible, and classroom-ready.

We became a nonprofit in August 2022, and our impact has continued to accelerate. In the past year alone, VST reached over 1.5 million users across 4.5 million learning sessions throughout the United States. While our reach is national, our roots and momentum are especially strong in Virginia, where we served more than 100,000 users statewide during that same time period.

Our mission is to support teachers as they do the critical work of building a scientifically literate society and to personally empower students with the science knowledge and skills they need to thrive in school, careers, and life. As we grow across Virginia, we're expanding partnerships with school districts, supporting STEM events, and increasing outreach that connects science learning to real opportunities for students and communities.

Role Description

VST is seeking passionate, community-connected Board Members from anywhere in Virginia who want to help strengthen science education and expand STEM opportunity statewide. Board Members serve as volunteers who work closely with VST leadership and fellow board members to guide the organization's growth, build strategic partnerships, and accelerate our momentum.

Board Members are expected to:

  • Attend bi-monthly board meetings (virtual and/or in-person as scheduled)
  • Participate occasionally in board committee work based on organizational needs and their strengths
  • Support outreach, STEM events, and fundraising efforts across Virginia
  • Help VST build on current momentum by connecting us to school districts, educators, community organizations, businesses, philanthropies, and statewide networks
  • Serve as ambassadors for VST's mission, helping more Virginia students access engaging science learning and future workforce pathways
  • We are especially looking for board members who understand the power of STEM education to shape opportunity and who want to help empower local students and strengthen Virginia's future workforce.
