ASSOCIATE SUPERINTENDENT FOR CATHOLIC CULTURE
Job Summary
Assists the Superintendent in achieving the mission of the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Serves as an agent of the Superintendent and performs all position responsibilities according to the teaching of the Catholic Church, the goals and objectives of the Department of Catholic Schools and archdiocesan policies. The Associate Superintendent of Catholic Culture works to design, implement, and support all aspects of Catholic Culture within the schools of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Duties/Responsibilities
Supports the Department of Catholic Schools, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Schools, in the planning, design and implementation of programs of ongoing faith formation for principals and teachers in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Collaborates with Priests in Solidum/Pastors and principals to aid in the spiritual formation of Catholic school faculty and staff, including the planning and facilitation of retreats and faith formation programs. Advises and assists principals in their role as spiritual leaders.Coordinates content and delivery of content for AOD Professional Development Days. Designs and implements teacher professional development programming to incorporate the Catholic faith into instruction in all subject areas. Collaborates with the Department of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship to ensure that Catholic school employees comply with Catechist Certification requirements. Serves on the Catechist Certification Review Board and attends regular meetings. Assists in the review, development, promulgation, and evaluation of Religion curriculum for the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Schools.Monitors the implementation of the Religion curriculum at the elementary and secondary levels in the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Schools.Coordinates the archdiocesan Religious Education Assessment.Serves as a liaison with high school Campus Ministers. Collaborates with the Catholic Culture Committee of the Catholic Schools Council to develop, revise, and support the Catholic Culture Guideposts for elementary and high schools. Develops tools to assess Catholic culture in schools and throughout the Archdiocese of DetroitDevelops resources to aid in cultivating Catholic culture within all schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Coordinates and/or assists in planning and coordination of annual Principal Retreat and Principal meetings.Coordinates and/or assists in planning, coordination, and delivery of Principal Professional Development, and Leadership Discernment. Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong public-speaking and presentation skills.Strong customer service skills.Strong MS Office Suite and computer skills.Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time while paying attention to details and meeting deadlines.Strong ability to work collaboratively and strategically with a multidisciplinary, diverse and dynamic team of various staff and stakeholders.Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Archdiocese of Detroit and State of Michigan rules, regulations and procedures related to K-12 entities.Strong knowledge of Church documents and resources relating to Catholic education.Strong problem solving and creative skills with ability to exercise sound judgment and make strategic decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.Demonstrated success in ministry and in designing effective programs of evangelization. Demonstrated leadership, relational and team building skills.Knowledge and understanding of opportunities and challenges currently facing the Catholic Church and Catholic education.Must be willing to work occasional nights and weekends.
Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in Educational Administration or Educational Leadership or equivalent required.Minimum 5 years' experience teaching/ministering in Catholic schools required.Minimum 5 years' experience as a principal in Catholic schools preferred. Physical Requirements
Prolonged sitting and working at a desk with repetitive motion working on a computer.Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials 15 pounds at a time.May involve some standing, bending, and walking.
Travel Required
Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit. Additional Requirements
Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, adhere to and transmit the teachings of the Church on matters of faith and morals. Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding any archdiocesan information gained within the Archdiocese of Detroit especially highly sensitive material such as protected Personally Identifiable Information.Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
