Purchasing & Procurement Specialist

Full Time Position - Auburn Hills, Michigan

Firefly is seeking a highly organized and proactive Purchasing & Procurement Specialist to take full ownership of our purchasing operations. This is a brand-new position with no existing systems in place. You will be responsible for building the procurement function from the ground up.

You'll handle all ordering of raw materials, electronics, PCB components, and operational supplies needed for manufacturing our drones and related systems. We're looking for someone who can jump in immediately, quickly understand our needs, and establish efficient, scalable purchasing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the full procurement lifecycle for all materials, electronics, PCB components, and manufacturing supplies
  • Develop purchasing workflows, documentation, and tracking systems from scratch
  • Source vendors, evaluate quotes, negotiate pricing, and manage supplier relationships
  • Place and track purchase orders, ensuring materials arrive on time and in correct quantities
  • Forecast material needs in collaboration with engineering, production, and leadership
  • Work with inventory and operations teams to prevent shortages or production delays
  • Maintain an organized record of suppliers, pricing, lead times, and specifications
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and streamline procurement processes
  • Expedite critical orders and resolve issues related to delays, shortages, or quality concerns
  • Develop KPI tracking for purchasing efficiency, costs, and vendor performance
  • Support manufacturing planning by ensuring all required materials are ordered proactively

Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain operations—preferably in hardware, electronics, or manufacturing
  • Ability to manage multiple orders, vendors, and timelines simultaneously
  • Proactive, self-starting mindset with the ability to independently design and build new processes
  • Strong communication skills for cross-team coordination
  • Basic understanding of electronic components, PCB terminology, or manufacturing materials (or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

Bonus Points:

  • Experience sourcing PCB assemblies, electronics components, or mechanical parts
  • Familiarity with ERP, MRP, or inventory management systems
  • Negotiation experience or supplier-management background

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive Health Benefits: We cover 100% of health insurance premiums for our employees.
  • Retirement Plan: We offer a Simple IRA with employer contributions to help you plan for your future and grow your retirement savings.

Firefly is a rapidly expanding business derived from innovation in drone show technology. We thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment that evolves quickly based on project needs and customer feedback. Our team is passionate and deeply invested in the work we do, taking pride in the innovative products we build. This collective drive for excellence often leads us to put in the extra time and effort necessary to meet our high standards.

We reward initiative and encourage team members to take ownership of projects and explore areas that align with their passions. Whether it's improving systems or pioneering new ideas, our culture fosters creativity, autonomy, and continuous growth.
