Laborer ( Mechanical Load Adjust)

Description
We are seeking a Railroad Mechanical Load Adjust Laborer that is responsible for inspecting, adjusting, and securing freight loads on railcars to ensure compliance with safety standards and federal regulations. This position supports rail operations by maintaining load integrity, performing mechanical tasks, and assisting in the preparation and movement of railcars for transport.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Inspect railcars for proper load placement, securement, and compliance with company and regulatory guidelines (AAR, FRA, OSHA).
- Adjust, block, brace, and tie down freight to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Use hand tools, power tools, chains, straps, lumber, and other materials to secure loads.
- Identify and report defective or damaged equipment, and assist in minor mechanical repairs or adjustments.
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Safely operate rail yard vehicles, forklifts, and other mechanical equipment as needed.
- Follow all safety rules, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, train crews, and inspectors to ensure safe and efficient railcar readiness.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting mechanical crews with general labor or inspection tasks.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in rail operations, mechanical work, construction, or load securement preferred.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and material handling equipment.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Team-oriented with good communication and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions
- Work performed primarily outdoors in rail yard or industrial settings.
- Exposure to noise, dust, grease, moving machinery, and weather extremes.
- Must be able to climb ladders, walk on uneven surfaces, and work at heights or confined spaces when required.
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, bending, and climbing for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for inspecting and adjusting loads.
- Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, etc.).
