We are seeking a compassionate and creative PRN Hospice Music Therapist to join our interdisciplinary care team. As a vital member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), you will provide music therapy services designed to bring comfort, connection, and emotional support to patients and their families. You will assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and collaborate closely with hospice professionals—all while using the healing power of music to enhance quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide music therapy visits aligned with the interdisciplinary plan of care.
Complete comprehensive music therapy assessments and contribute to the patient's individualized care plan.
Educate hospice staff on music therapy benefits and encourage referrals.
Use culturally sensitive music therapy that respects patient/family values and beliefs.
Incorporate knowledge of grief, loss, death, and dying into therapy sessions.
Participate actively in IDG meetings, offering clinical insights from a music therapy perspective.
Provide in-services to staff and referral sources about music therapy in hospice care.
Maintain proper documentation, follow infection control protocols, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Promote the company's core values and complete all required trainings.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education:
- A bachelor's degree or higher from an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved program.
Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year of music therapy experience required. Healthcare setting experience preferred.
Licenses, Certification, and/or Registration:
- Current license to practice Music Therapy in the state of requested employment.
- CPR Certification.
- Current certification with the CBMT Board as a MT‐BC (Music Therapist Board Certified).
- Current automobile insurance and valid driver's license
Equipment/Tools/Work‐Aids:
- Various musical instruments. Must be able to effectively operate computers, tablets, facsimile equipment, copier and cell phone. Must have and maintain transportation to be used for work.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of terminally ill patients and their families along with understanding of hospice; ability to apply knowledge of the special needs of hospice patient and families; knowledge of roles of all disciplines providing hospice services; excellent patient assessment skills; good oral and written communication skills; documentation and program management; knowledge of general music therapy practice; thorough knowledge of managed care principles, regulatory guidelines (i.e., Medicare, Medicaid, ACHC, and human resource) management principles.

- Sensitivity to the impact of life and death issues faced by individuals with terminal illness; tact in dealing with these patients and their families; ability to support others at a time of crisis. Must be able to demonstrate flexibility by performing a variety of tasks, often changing from one to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Communicate effectively with people of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Responsible functioning in the work place, maturity, cooperation, flexibility, tact in dealing with co‐workers and all members of the hospice team.
Working Conditions:
- Patient's homes and/or institutional setting and automobile. Potential exposure to infections, communicable diseases, odors, blood, excreta and hazardous materials.
