Avionics Technician

We're looking for an experienced Avionics Technician to be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics systems on unmanned aerial vehicles. The technician ensures that the avionics systems are functioning optimally and safely, performing regular inspections, updates, and repairs. This role works closely with engineers and UAV operators to support both the testing and operational deployment of unmanned aerial systems.
Responsibilities:
- Avionics System Maintenance: Inspect, diagnose, and repair avionics systems including navigation, communication, flight control, and data transmission systems for UAVs.
- System Installation: Install and configure avionics systems and components, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
- Wiring Harness Fabrication & Installation: Fabricate and install complex wiring harnesses for UAVs, ensuring accurate routing, secure connections, and proper insulation. Ensure harnesses meet the required electrical and mechanical specifications to support reliable avionics system performance.
- Wiring Harness Inspection: Conduct detailed inspections of wiring harnesses to detect potential issues such as chafing, improper routing, loose connections, or insulation degradation. Perform continuity and insulation resistance testing to ensure system integrity.
- Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools and software to identify, isolate, and repair faults in avionics hardware and software systems, including wiring harness- related issues.
- Testing & Calibration: Conduct pre-flight, post-flight, and routine testing to verify that avionics systems, including wiring harnesses, are functioning properly and are within required calibration.
- Software Updates: Install and maintain avionics software and firmware to ensure systems are up-to-date and functioning correctly.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, system upgrades, wiring harness fabrication, and part replacements in compliance with company procedures and aviation regulations.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work adheres to aviation industry standards, FAA regulations, and internal safety protocols, particularly concerning wiring harness fabrication and installation practices.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with engineers, operators, and flight teams to support UAV operations, providing technical expertise during missions and field testing.
- Training: Provide training and support to operators and other personnel on avionics system usage, basic troubleshooting techniques, and wiring harness inspection methods.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Avionics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- .Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in avionics, preferably in UAV systems
- .Strong familiarity with avionics systems used in UAVs, such as autopilots, communication links, navigation systems, and wiring harnesses
- .Proficient in reading and interpreting avionics wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
- .Expertise in wiring harness functions, including fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, and repair
- .Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex avionics and wiring harness issues
- .Experience with avionics testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and wiring continuity testers
- .Familiarity with UAV flight control software and communication protocols (e.g., telemetry, GPS, RF systems)
- .Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and documentation practices
- .Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team coordination
- .FAA Airframe and Powerplant License is a bonus, but not required
- .Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in environments such as labs, hangars, and outdoor flight test fields
- .Work Environment: This role works in lab, hangar, and outdoor environments
- .Some travel may be required to support field operations or testing
- .The technician should be comfortable working with high-tech and occasionally hazardous systems under tight deadlines
