Strategic Space Systems Division is seeking a Mechanical Technician 3/4. This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector in Redondo Beach, CA
.
Successful candidates will have extensive knowledge of diverse assembly techniques, knowledge of Structural bonding techniques, including bonding/drilling/trimming of composite and metallic assemblies, as well as the fundamentals of Composite Layup and Trim. Ability to read engineering drawings and application of processes, procedures, and documents relative to Composite hardware commonly found in the aerospace industry. Candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of Geometric Positioning and Tolerancing usage and application. Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development, assembly and integration of Space Vehicle mechanical components, assemblies, and systems as well as set up and test complete prototype or flight units and sub-assemblies under operational conditions.
Position requires 4- or 6-years minimum experience in the skills relative to the Aerospace Composite Fabrication and Assembly field. This position may require 2nd shift support.
Individuals must be able to demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements. Works with chemicals. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift and extended work weeks.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications
- Mechanical Technician level 3: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required, 4 years of applicable experience performing Aerospace Composite mechanical technician competencies.
- Mechanical Technician level 4: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required, 6 years of applicable experience performing Aerospace Composite mechanical technician competencies.
- Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances: Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR SCI Access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR Department of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope
Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years.
- Four or Six years of experience performing Aerospace Composite mechanical technician competencies
- Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
- Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand
tools and mechanical equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- AA degree or other two-year technical degree
- Demonstrate technical knowledge in Composite manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to layup, Trim/Drill, mechanical fabrication and assembly, with a high attention to detail.
- Experience working with complex engineering drawings, process specification, and work order instructions.
- Experience working in clean room environments.
- Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments, hand tools, drills, torque wrenches, etc.
- Minimum 4 or 6 years of experience with Composite layup, trim, and assembly using materials commonly found in aerospace environments.
Primary Level Salary Range: $64, $107,600.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $76, $128,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
