Manager, Corporate Accounting
Company Description We are currently seeking talent for a leadership role in our Alpharetta, GA location. We are a rapidly growing, $2.5B global chemical manufacturing company. From building products to agricultural applications and more, we are applying advanced technology to solve complex challenges. As we embark on our journey to become a publicly traded entity, we are expanding our finance team to build a best-in-class, public company-ready function.
Position Summary Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this position is responsible for managing the global month-end close process, with direct oversight of Fixed Assets and Compensation/Benefits accounting. This is a "hands-on" manager role responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger across a complex landscape of four distinct ERPs.
The Manager, Corporate Accounting will play a pivotal role in our IPO readiness by establishing robust SOX controls for the fixed asset cycle (utilizing Finario) and employee benefit plans. You will lead the effort to compile and analyze financial data to ensure accurate reporting while driving process improvements to shorten the close timeline.
Job Responsibilities:
- Global Month-End Close & General Ledger:
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close calendar, ensuring that all deadlines are met in accordance with the closing dates set by management.
- Review and approve month-end accruals and closing journal entries prepared by the team, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
- Oversee account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner, specifically focusing on high-risk accounts including cash, prepaids, and intercompany balances.
- Support the integration of acquired companies into the corporate accounting structure and general ledger.
- Fixed Asset Management (Capital Projects):
- Serve as the process owner for the company's fixed asset accounting, managing a $65M annual CapEx spend and 300+ active projects.
- Administer the Finario capital planning system to track project spend, manage approvals, and forecast cash flow.
- Ensure accurate capitalization of costs (labor, material, overhead) from CIP to Fixed Assets and manage asset lifecycles (depreciation, transfers, disposals).
- Benefits & Compensation Accounting:
- Manage the accounting for complex benefit plans, including self-insured medical reserves (IBNR), 401(k) matching, and pension obligations.
- Calculate and record monthly accruals for corporate bonus plans, commissions, and severance restructuring events.
- Lead the annual benefit plan audits, including preparation of supporting documentation for audits and resolving questions from external auditors.
- Process Improvement & Compliance:
- Dedicated to continuously improve the automation of the accounting and reporting process, specifically assisting with the implementation of a new global consolidation tool.
- Design and implement internal controls (SOX) for Fixed Assets, Benefits, and General Accounting cycles.
- Identify problems and propose solutions upon discovery regarding process bottlenecks in a multi-ERP environment.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required.
- CPA license is strongly preferred to support IPO readiness.
- 6-8+ years' of relevant experience (updated from to reflect Manager level), with a mix of public accounting and corporate industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting theory and practice and US GAAP, specifically regarding Property, Plant & Equipment (PPE) and Benefits/Compensation accounting.
- Strong computer skills working with advanced ERP systems; experience with JDE and Finario is a major plus.
