Department Information
The Special Education program, housed within the Department of Literacy and Special Education in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia, invites dynamic applicants to join our growing program. The College of Education at the University of West Georgia is doctoral granting recognized leader in preparing exemplary practitioners for a variety of educational roles. The College of Education offers high level technological support, mentoring for new faculty, assistance seeking research funding, and opportunities to partner with area school districts and to work with graduate students at all levels. Located 45 miles west of Atlanta, the University of West Georgia is rapidly growing, with programs at the undergraduate level through the doctorate, and a diverse faculty and student population. Our 645 acre campus offers modern, state-of-the-art facilities complimented by beautiful green spaces. It ranks as one of the Southeast's best public regional comprehensive universities.
Job Summary
The successful candidate may assume a range of responsibilities including (1) teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses, with an emphasis on high quality face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online instruction; or (2) supervising students in field experiences in various school settings; and (3) working collaboratively with faculty in the College of Education.
Required Qualifications
- Earned Master's degree in special education and/or closely related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching children with disabilities in school settings
- Expertise in the field of adapted or general curriculum special education
- Interest and ability in working with and mentoring students
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in special education or a closely related field (ABD may be considered)
- Experience with distance technology and/or online teaching in educational settings
- Successful experience with developing and delivering instruction at the college level
- Successful collaboration with colleagues to expand undergraduate and graduate curricula
