Sr Software Development Engineer

Join us as a Software Development Engineer III on the AI Studios Engineering org within Prime Video, where you'll architect intelligent systems at the intersection of AI and global entertainment. This role offers a rare opportunity to transform how Prime Video creates recaps, highlights, montages and other short form content —scaling from manual processes to AI-powered systems generating high-quality content across our entire catalog.

This position uniquely combines large-scale distributed systems design with ML/AI infrastructure engineering at scale. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with creative professionals, writing production code for ML systems in the morning and designing scalable solutions in the afternoon. Your technical decisions will directly impact millions of customers' experiences as you balance innovation with reliability while collaborating across engineering, product, and creative teams.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead technical architecture decisions for distributed ML inference systems, making appropriate build/buy/borrow decisions while ensuring extensibility and maintainability
• Design and implement scalable, high-performance AI content generation systems that process millions of video assets, optimizing for both quality and computational efficiency
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including ML scientists, product managers, and creative professionals to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Mentor junior engineers on software development best practices, code quality standards, and system design principles while promoting a culture of technical excellence
• Drive technical innovation by evaluating emerging technologies, conducting experiments with latest AI models, and implementing solutions that balance speed-to-market with long-term technical sustainability

A day in the life

No two days are identical in this role. Some days you'll spend 70% coding deep system implementations, while others involve 70% collaboration through design reviews and stakeholder management. You'll constantly shift between writing production code, optimizing ML systems, designing scalable solutions, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with scientists, product teams, and creative professionals. What remains constant is the high impact, autonomy, and complexity—you'll always balance strategic thinking with tactical execution while translating between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

About the team

We're part of the Engineering org within Prime Video's AI Studio, pioneering automated content creation at entertainment scale. Our mission is transforming how Prime Video creates recaps, highlights, trailer, montages, news digest etc—scaling from manual, weeks-long processes to AI-powered systems generating high-quality content pieces across our entire catalog.

Our engineering team spans distributed systems engineers building scalable infrastructure, ML engineers optimizing LLM inference and multi-modal models, and full-stack engineers crafting intuitive interfaces for creative collaboration.

• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
