Junior Software Engineer (Streaming)
who thrives on creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. In this role, you'll work with one of the world's leading media & entertainment brands to build modern front-end environments for video players, optimize playback performance, and enhance streaming quality across platforms. This is an incredible opportunity for a developer with 2-3 years of experience who's eager to grow their technical depth in video streaming, cloud systems, and front-end technologies. We are setting up interviews for this opportunity immediately and the role can be worked remotely, on Pacific Time Zone hours within the continental United States.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain front-end environments for modern video streaming players.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, backend, DevOps) to deliver seamless playback experiences.
• Build and optimize JavaScript-based video player interfaces using modern frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular).
• Integrate APIs and SDKs for content delivery, analytics, and digital rights management (DRM).
• Work within cloud-based architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure) to deploy and scale video applications.
• Leverage Media Source Extensions (MSE) to build adaptive streaming and dynamic playback features.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and enhance browser-based video players to ensure optimal performance across devices.
• Analyze and improve video compression, buffering, and latency performance for different streaming environments.
• Stay up to date on emerging video streaming technologies, standards, and best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and collaborative problem-solving sessions with senior engineers.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2-3 years of hands-on software engineering experience, preferably in front-end or streaming-related environments.
• Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and experience with one or more modern JS frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, etc.).
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and API integration.
• Understanding of Media Source Extensions (MSE) and video compression formats (H.264, H.265, VP9, etc.).
• Experience working with browser-based video players (e.g., Shaka, , ExoPlayer, JW Player).
• Demonstrated curiosity through side projects or open-source contributions related to video streaming, CDNs, or DRM.
• A strong desire to learn, innovate, and grow within a dynamic global media & entertainment environment.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies such as Widevine, PlayReady, or FairPlay.
• Understanding of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and video caching strategies.
• Experience with adaptive bitrate streaming (ABR) protocols like HLS, DASH, or CMAF.
• Exposure to observability and monitoring tools (Grafana, Kibana, New Relic) for video performance analytics.

Additional Details
The base range for this contract position is $42-$58 per hour, depending on experience. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires across all US locations. Within the range, pay is determined by work location and additional factors including skills, experience, and education. Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered.
