About the Role

Backend Engineers design, build, operate, and maintain the various cloud-based services that power Hinge.  You'll solve complex technical challenges and own a significant portion of the software stack that allows millions of users to find meaningful connections.  You'll write high-quality code, design reliable systems, and operate the software that you build by taking part in on-call.

As a Backend Engineer, you'll also be part of a diverse cross-functional team that includes partners in Product, Data Science, ML, iOS, Android, and Data Engineering.  You'll have a hand in defining and implementing the technical strategy for how we innovate in multiple product areas (e.g. Recommendations, Monetization, User Safety, etc.).

Responsibilities- Design and build Web APIs for a microservice architecture
- Taking part in the backend On-Call rotation (around a week per quarter)
- Design and develop distributed systems in Go using cloud infrastructure, ensuring high performance and scalability
- Lead projects end-to-end from technical design to implementation, while managing personal workload, meetings and timelines effectively
- Collaborate across teams promoting a culture of inclusivity, growth, and strong cross-functional communication
What We're Looking For- 5+ years of industry experience as a backend/service engineer
- 4+ years of experience working in a cloud environment such as GCP, AWS, Azure
- Strong programming skills
: Proficiency with Go and Python is a bonus
- System Design & Architecture:
A deep understanding of distributed computing concepts, event based architecture, and cloud design patterns
- Collaboration and Communication skills
: Solid writing skills paired with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas to teammates from both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
- Cloud Technologies
: Proficiency with Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, gRPC/Protobuf, Argo, Kafka, etc
