Position Objective:

RWC Counselors are responsible to model a genuine Christian lifestyle to primary and junior youth, providing campers safety and well-being while befriending campers to nurture spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum in a manner consistent with MHA's mission, vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Redwood Camp ("RWC") Counselor is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.'s ("MHA") mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA's Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Provide discipline and guidance to campers for their physical and spiritual welfare.
  • Collaborate with RWC Team in the implementation of a variety of camp activities and curriculum including but not limited to leading small group Bible studies.
  • Lead and assist in crafts, music, drama, group games, etc.

  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas including workspaces and supplies clean and orderly.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; 1 year of college experience preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certified (before arriving at camp)

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience working with primary and junior youth preferred.
  • Prior experience in leadership roles in camp settings preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Love for children of all ages is essential.
  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Motivated and able to lead with empathy and discipline.
  • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, seeing, hearing, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children and youth.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA's Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
