Our client is a Boston-based surgical robotics start-up pioneering next-generation endoluminal robotic platforms designed to expand the frontiers of minimally invasive surgery. Our multidisciplinary team integrates advanced robotics, precision mechatronics, and intelligent sensing to deliver transformative clinical outcomes and improve patient care.

This newly created Systems R&D Engineer position will play a key role in integrating and validating the complex interplay of hardware, electronics, and embedded software within our robotic system. This individual will contribute towards system integration activities, including solving technical problems that cross the boundaries of engineering disciplines. This engineer will also develop test methods that evaluate system performance against documented design inputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Play a hands-on role in the R&D lab, working with prototype hardware and prototype software to understand performance from a system-wide view.
  • Conduct system-level debugging and root-cause analysis across mechanical, electrical, and software domains, utilizing issue tracking tools for the management and resolution of issues.
  • Collaborate across disciplines with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to support system integration and test activities.
  • Develop and implement test methods and test fixtures for subsystem and full-system evaluation, including functional, safety, and reliability testing. Develop performance tests that will lead to formal verification and validation testing (V&V).
  • Interface and collaborate with clinical, manufacturing, and quality/regulatory teams to work towards company objectives.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in medical device development, robotics, or complex mechatronic systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in system integration for a medical device.
  • An understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management and V&V under FDA 21 CFR or ISO 13485 frameworks.
  • Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or LabVIEW for data analysis.

Preferred:

  • Experience with surgical robotics, endoluminal navigation, or imaging-guided systems.
  • Familiarity with IEC , IEC 62304, and ISO 14971 standards.
  • Hands-on experience with system bring-up, bench testing, and prototype integration in a lab environment.
