Position Title: Programs and Peer Specialist
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $18-20 hr
This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for people who want to help individuals in need. Clay Pots is a non-profit community center which approaches harm reduction through social, wellness and education-based programming. We seek people who have had personal experiences with substance use, traumatic events and mental health to work closely with community members who share similar experiences. The Program and Peer Specialist will support new and existing clients in removing and/or overcoming obstacles in their recovery as well as to help limit the harm caused by addiction by providing linkage to wellness, education and social program offerings at Clay Pots as well as other community resources. In this role the candidate will offer guidance and support to individuals struggling with addiction and their families; that inspires optimism and fosters hope that recovery is possible, all while promoting empowerment, self-determination, understanding, coping skills, and resilience.

Education:
- High School Diploma (required)
AA degree in the field of Addictions Counseling or related field (preferred)
Certified Peer Specialist Certification or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. (preferred)
CPR and First Aid certified (preferred)
Required experience
- Lived Experience. The candidate must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery with a minimum of two years of demonstrated personal recovery experience from alcohol and/or drug use.
- Maintained sobriety/recovery for a period of no less than 2 years
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule consisting of some evenings and weekends
- Experience distributing and/or administering Naloxone
- Must be able to attend relevant training and conferences
- At least one year's experience as a peer recovery specialist in a substance use disorder setting, providing peer support/navigation
- Experience in documenting in Electronic Health Records, Client Management Software
- Experience in drafting documents in Microsoft Office applications, Google (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.)

- Knowledge of services, community resources, and regulations pertaining to recovery and co-occurring disorders.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the recovery community.
- Ability to develop positive, trusting and ethical relationships with clients and peers while maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to successfully work with others from various cultures and backgrounds.
- Ability to plan and organize work and prepare appropriate, accurate records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, health care providers, outside agencies, institutions, and the general public.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be a model employee for clients in recovery, staff personnel and community members by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
- Committed to recovery, choice, empowerment, and the ability of people with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders to find meaningful lives in the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
.20 FTE: Case Management
Peer case management is a dynamic and systematic collaborative approach to provide supportive services to people living with or are impacted by substance use and/or mental illness. At Clay Pots, the Programs and Peer Specialists will serve as advocates, mentors and resource brokers to assist individuals in meeting goals that support their well-being.
- Conduct intake/needs assessment to identify barriers to recovery/sober living in order to assist clients in setting and maintaining goals
- Maintain a caseload of 5-10 clients
- Assist clients in obtaining medical, mental health, substance use/recovery services, entitlement services, vital records and other key resources necessary to support client's recovery and wellbeing
- Maintain client contact via phone and/or email during the after-care process to ensure the client's ongoing success, and provide re-engagement support, and encouragement.
- Conduct outreach to community organizations to establish cross-referral relationships to provide "warm hand-offs"
- Other related duties as assigned
.30 FTE: Harm Reduction/Outreach
The Program and Peer Specialist will conduct routine outreach both in the center and in high risk areas in and around the community to deliver harm reduction education and overdose prevention materials.
- Prepare naloxone kits and other prevention materials to distribute to community members
- Conduct community/street outreach in high drug use areas to deliver Naloxone/Narcan, education on overdose prevention and resources related to recovery
- Offer overdose response training and naloxone distribution to community stakeholders, new and existing clients, volunteers and staff
- Other related duties as assigned
.20 FTE: Program Specialist
The Program and Peer Specialist will assist in the delivery of social, educational and wellness programs offered by Clay Pots.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Clay Pots programs and services by promoting programs on digital media platforms and through direct engagement.
- Engage clients both in the center and in the community to provide linkage to wellness and education services
- Field inquiries related to program offerings and assist clients in signing up for services
- Set up, break down and assist vendors, contractors and staff during programs and events
- Prepare and organize materials for programs including: intakes, waivers, health surveys and client feedback forms
- Other related duties as assigned
.30 FTE: Administrative
The Programs and Peer Specialist will provide administrative support to assist in the day-to-day activities of the center.
- Organizing information: Preparing, organizing, and storing information in paper and digital form including attendances logs, case management and wellness records, feedback forms, etc.
- Communication: Answering phones, creating and responding to emails, and communicating with clients, community partners and other key stakeholders. Maintaining consistent contact with clients which includes follow up phone calls, appointment reminders, etc.
- Scheduling: Scheduling client appointments for external services (i.e. medical, mental health) and internal programming
- Record keeping: Maintaining organized records and filing documents, documenting client engagement in CMS/digital forms as well as storing files appropriately to promote confidentiality of sensitive information.

Pay: $37, $41,600.00 per year
