Summus HealthCare is adding a Referral Coordinator to our Primary Care office in Decatur.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Verify insurance benefits, patient payment responsibility, and confirm patient balances.
  • Ensure all incoming referrals are processed and patients are scheduled.
  • Coordinate with offices for clinicals, insurance referrals, etc.
  • Verify insurance coverage and prior authorization requirements for procedures.
  • Sort and file faxes into charts.
  • Answer incoming calls as needed.
  • Update records to ensure accurate information is present in the patient medical record
  • Communicate with patients to ensure follow-through with referrals
  • Support providers and patients in synchronizing appointments, authorizations, and tests
  • Other duties as assigned by practice management

Skills and Qualifications

  • Medical office insurance verification
  • Read and understand insurance communications
  • Manage multiple priorities at once with minimal supervision
  • Organization
  • Critical thinking, decision-making, and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Daily usage of EHR systems
  • Time management
  • Attention to detail
  • Clear written and oral communication
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Experience answering multi-line phone system
  • Competency performing web searches, using portals, etc.
  • Customer service skills, treating each patient with respect and empathy

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Two (2) or more years of referral coordination in medical practice preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
