Responsibilities
NV5 is seeking a full-time Utility Services Survey Technician to work outdoors as part of a small crew within the Geomatics Department. This position is for a survey technician to work primarily within the SUE side of the department, surveying SUE markings and appurtenances, along with some topographic work. Chance to learn underground utility location as it pertains to the design of new roads, buildings, and utility master plans. Learn the mitigation of risk associated with the damage to underground utilities during construction due to faulty design, caused by incomplete existing condition information. This is an excellent opportunity to make an immediate impact and take ownership of a fast-growing segment in our business. In addition to land survey, this individual will be trained in all aspects of Subsurface Utility Engineering, including ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic locators, and robotic pipe camera inspection equipment. Part 107 drone pilot training will be provided. All tools and equipment are provided along with a company vehicle. Primarily travel around the southeast with opportunities to travel to other NV5 offices in California, Oregon, Texas, Colorado, and Florida. The NV5 Utility Services Department likes to promote from within and will train the proper applicant.
- Operate and/or oversee the use of survey equipment and field data collection.
- Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
- Determine precise location and measurements of paint, elevations, lines, areas, and contours.
- Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performance.
- Ensure the successful and accurate completion of the field portion of the project.
- Locate underground utilities such as water, gas, power, fiber optic, and telephone.
- Identification of utility sizes, materials, and types.
- Collection of existing conditions information for the assessment and identification of underground utilities.
- Be knowledgeable of the quality levels of SUE and how to differentiate between each one.
- Implement new technologies and methods.
- Complete existing conditions surveys for public and private clients.
Qualifications
- Associate degree preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software; Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to type.
- Familiar with IOS operating system, a plus.
- Familiar with AutoCAD, OpenRoads, and/or MicroStation, a plus.
- 1-3 years of land survey experience
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment.
- Ability to travel (up to 50% of the time)
- Familiarity with iPad or tablet.
- Part 107 certified, a plus
