Staff Accountant III

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations and providing key support for project expense tracking, fixed asset management, and capital reserve spending oversight. This role ensures that financial activities are performed accurately and timely in accordance with internal policies, GAAP, and community association standards.
Accounting Operations
- Assist with monthend and yearend general ledger close processes.
- Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports.
- Maintain documentation to support internal and external audits.
Project and Capital Expense Tracking
- Track spending on capital, reserve, and operating projects in collaboration with all departments.
- Maintain detailed records of project budgets, expenditures, and completion timelines.
- Ensure proper coding of invoices and expenditures tied to specific projects.
- Support the Director of Finance in preparing financial summaries for project oversight.
Maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring proper depreciation.
- Reconcile asset balances and depreciation schedules monthly.
- Ensure compliance with asset capitalization policies.
- Ensure all assets are properly tagged and recorded.
- Provide financial and budgetary support to department directors and managers.
- Assist with budget preparation and forecasting.
- Crosstrain within the Accounting Department to ensure coverage.
- Participate in ongoing process improvements and internal control implementation.
- Assist the Director of Finance in updating the annual reserve study.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move intermittently throughout the day.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 20 lbs.
- Must be able to operate a computer, telephone, printer, scanner, and calculator for extended periods.
- Must be able to read, speak, and write in English clearly and effectively.
- Must be able to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Work is conducted in a welllit, temperaturecontrolled office environment.
- Must be able to manage frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
- Must work effectively and cheerfully under pressure and in team settings.
Education & certifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
Experience & competencies:- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible accounting experience or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit, public agency, or community association.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting software.
- Experience with asset tracking and capital project accounting preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Dependable, detailoriented, and accountable.
- Adaptable to change and eager to learn.
- Works collaboratively in team settings.
