SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction and supervision of the Vice President and Membership Concierge Manager, the Membership Specialist provides support for fundraising, member ticketing, and membership events associated with Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater. The position's primary function is to sell theater memberships and take membership ticket orders via the phone. The position also requires attending performances and membership events to cultivate donors. The position will act as an essential contact for members and theater patrons while providing exceptional service and guest experience. The position requires night and weekend availability to assist with shows and special events. This position earns commissions in addition to hourly pay rate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for generating maximum revenue by selling theater memberships, upgrading memberships, and selling individual tickets for performances.
  • Record and maintain accurate records of all prospecting activities and closed sales, including donor preferences.
  • Create and develop new business by regularly pitching new donors through phone prospecting and in-person cultivation events.
  • Perform outbound call projects to promote upcoming shows, special events, and education programs of the Foundation/Theater.
  • Assist with the preparation and execution of membership events, including set-up/breakdown, in the VIP Member Lounge and at offsite venues.
  • Attend performances and membership events in the VIP Member Lounge to cultivate existing and future donors.
  • Attend offsite membership events to cultivate new donors.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service through all interactions with members and theater patrons.
  • Professionally represent both the Foundation and theater at all times.
  • Must become proficient in using all aspects of the Archtics ticketing system software.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and demonstrate that s/he can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • At least one year of demonstrated fundraising or sales experience, preferably in the arts.
  • Prior experience in ticket sales, telemarketing, appointment scheduling, or cold-calling techniques is helpful.
  • Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc) and working knowledge of Archtics, Tessitura or similar database software.
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to effectively work with the public in a professional manner.
  • Basic online research skills.
  • Accurate record-keeping and data entry experience skills.
  • Strength in time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast paced and consistently changing environment.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent and punctual work schedule.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the theater and other event sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work in an office environment which requires sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods; and the ability to work events which require standing for extended periods.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms; Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour
