Job Title:
Senior ML Engineer

Location:
On Site - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States

Salary:
$180,000-$225,000

Skills:
Sensor Fusion, WiFi Sensing, Deep Learning (PyTorch/TensorFlow), C++, Visual Transformers

About the Engineering Company / The Opportunity:

Join a pioneering engineering company at the forefront of reimagining perception through advanced wireless and RF sensing technologies. Leveraging years of academic research, this team transforms Wi-Fi and RF signals into intelligent spatial systems capable of detecting people, objects, and threats in real-world environments. This is a rare opportunity to apply the rigor of autonomous vehicle perception to new modalities, building real-time systems that make a crucial impact on safety and situational awareness. You will work alongside talented scientists, engineers, and product experts in Pittsburgh—one of the nation's leading hubs for autonomous and robotics innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and train deep-learning models for detection, classification, tracking, and pose estimation using diverse sensor inputs such as wireless CSI, video, depth, or radar data.
  • Develop and implement multi-modal fusion techniques integrating vision, RF signals, and time-series data to achieve robust situational understanding.
  • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for large time-series and perception datasets, including data ingestion, labeling, augmentation, and preprocessing.
  • Define evaluation protocols and benchmark model performance across varied environments, iterating rapidly to resolve failure modes.
  • Deploy perception models into production and on edge or embedded hardware platforms, balancing trade-offs between accuracy, latency, and power efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to align sensor configurations, data capture processes, and model designs.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research in perception, transformer architectures, sensor fusion, and synthetic data generation, implementing relevant advancements into production models.

Must-Have Skills:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field with focus on computer vision, machine learning, sensor fusion, or signal processing.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing perception or sensor-fusion models in industry or academia (e.g., autonomous vehicles, robotics, or multi-modal perception).
  • Advanced proficiency in Python; hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow and large data pipelines.
  • Solid knowledge of transformer models, temporal modeling for time-series data, multi-modal fusion, and evaluation metrics.
  • Experience deploying ML models in real-time or embedded systems under compute and latency constraints.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Background in autonomous vehicle perception, including camera, LiDAR/radar fusion, 3D object detection, or multi-view modeling.
  • Experience with RF or wireless sensing data (e.g., CSI, WiFi-based sensing) or other non-visual modalities.
  • Familiarity with domain adaptation, synthetic-to-real data transfer, and self-supervised representation learning.
  • Production-quality software engineering skills in C++ or experience with embedded perception stacks.
