Summary

Celestica Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven candidate qualified for the position of Mechanical Engineering Manager to be a part of a market-leading Celestica Hardware Design Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical engineering assignments related to hardware products and systems, including the development of new products, updates to existing products, or sustaining current products. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering and all aspects of hardware development, combined with strong leadership and project management capabilities.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to the following:

  • Leads, mentors, and manages a team of mechanical engineers, fostering their professional development and ensuring high performance.
  • Develops and executes project plans, defining scope, objectives, timelines, and resource allocation for mechanical engineering initiatives.
  • Manages project budgets and resource allocation, ensuring efficient utilization and adherence to financial targets.
  • Reviews and approves engineering designs, documentation, and test results, ensuring adherence to quality standards and project requirements.
  • Collaborates with other engineering managers and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with overall product development.
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives within the mechanical engineering function, optimizing processes and workflows.
  • Identifies and mitigates technical and project risks, developing contingency plans as needed.
  • Participates in strategic planning for the hardware design group, contributing to technology roadmaps and capability development.
  • Interfaces with potential customers to help define their needs and to present technical proposals to meet those needs.
  • Ensures proposals meet requirements for design profitability, manufacturing profitability, etc.
  • Provides design and development feedback on projects and schedules, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Participates in and leads cross-functional teams in the design and documentation of assemblies.
  • Applies engineering knowledge and skills to develop new leading-edge technologies.
  • Works independently and provides technical leadership within a team environment.
  • Maintains current knowledge on industry trends and future technology and market opportunities.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Strong Engineering Foundation Competencies.
  • Proficiency in using 3D solid modeling using CAD (ProE/Creo or Solidworks).
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the business unit and how decisions impact customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery, and the profitability of the unit.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of engineering design and development, and production in a highly dynamic engineering environment.
  • Broad knowledge of an electronic manufacturing environment, materials, and processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-resolution skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, train, and motivate a diverse group of employees to meet high levels of technical requirements within tight time deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, execution, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound technical and business decisions.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, with a significant portion in a leadership or management role.
Typical Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
