Fitness Editor
with a passion for women's sports, and a strong background in science-backed writing and editing to help shape our fitness coverage. You'll be responsible for producing a mix of stories, from explainers and athlete profiles, to timely news. You'll also play a key role in planning women's sports coverage, including maintaining calendars for major events and ensuring we're ready to meet those moments.

You should have strong editorial judgment, a network of credible experts, and the ability to translate complex information into accessible, engaging stories. If you're deeply tapped into the conversations shaping fitness—and you can spot the cultural flashpoints and trends—this role is for you. This is a Guild position.

  • Ensure all content is accurate, well-researched, and adheres to journalistic standards.
  • Maintain event calendars for women's sporting events, ensuring coverage is planned and executed for major competitions and milestones.
  • Use analytics to inform and optimize pitches.
  • Collaborate with design, video, and social teams to create engaging cross-platform fitness and sports programming.
  • Contribute to larger editorial projects, series, challenges, and special packages as needed.
  • Attend industry and sporting events when applicable; appear in social and video content as needed.
  • Stay tapped into trends across social media, podcasts, newsletters, and scientific studies, and translate them for SELF's audience.
  • Additional duties as required, or as assigned by manager

Skills And Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant editorial experience, including at least 2 years in an editing role.
  • Background in service journalism, with an emphasis on fitness coverage.
  • Strong ability to pitch timely, shareable, and well-researched story ideas and execute them quickly.
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of women's sports and the broader sports landscape.
  • Strong network of experts and other relevant sources in fitness and sports.
  • Skilled at writing and editing clean, engaging copy on tight deadlines.
  • Deep knowledge of fitness, exercise, and wellness.
  • Training certifications are a plus, but not required.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $80,000-$100,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
