Position: Academic Support Specialist (Independent Contractor)

Location: South Tampa, FL (Hillsborough County)

Compensation: $30–$40/hour (based on qualifications & desire for growth within the space)

Schedule:

  • Mon/Wed/Fri: 7.5 hours/day (includes 1.5 hours of planning, 6 hours of direct instruction)
  • Tues/Thurs: 7.5 hours/day of direct instruction
  • Start Date: We are flexible, but have a goal of launching this program January 2026. The ideal candidate would have availability to join us as a support to our social programs beginning as early as November 2025, as well as complete observations and collaboration meetings with our team.

About the Program:

Our homeschool program is designed for children with varying diagnoses, including Autism, ADHD, and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance). Each child receives a customized educational plan designed by their therapy team that integrates:

  • Academic instruction delivered in-home by the Academic Support Specialist
  • Individual speech and occupational therapy
  • Social group therapy at our South Tampa clinic
  • Holistic support based on each child's individual needs, including both family and therapist collaboration meetings

The program will launch with 2–3 students, growing to a maximum of 6 per teacher.

Academic Support Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Choose and deliver curriculum that will be provided in students' homes following individualized plans
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and documentation in compliance with all state and county requirements
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Florida and Hillsborough County teacher licensure
  • Communicate regularly with families and therapy providers
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support each child's academic and developmental progress

Contract Requirements:

  • Florida Certified Teacher (K–6 or ESE certification highly preferred)
  • Must maintain active licensure with the State of Florida and Hillsborough County
  • Prior experience with neurodiverse learners strongly preferred
  • Comfortable with home-based instruction and adaptable to family dynamics
  • Organized, collaborative, and self-motivated
  • Experience with homeschool and/or hybrid home programs

Unpaid Professional Expectations:

  • 1 monthly supervision meeting
  • 2 hours/month of collaboration with therapy team
  • 1 hour/month family meeting per child
