JOB TITLE: Certified Early Childhood Teacher

REPORTS TO: Director of Lower School

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None

STATUS: Salary, 40 hours/week, Teacher Contract

JOB SUMMARY: The Certified Early Childhood Teacher has an expertise in supporting young learners with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. This position joins a collaborative faculty dedicated to providing a nurturing, academically rigorous, and inclusive learning environment. This position will play a critical role in partnering with the Department Chair and the Lower School Director.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES (Including Physical Function)

● Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the school's mission and curriculum standards.

● Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning profiles of students, with particular attention to those with learning differences.

● Utilize evidence-based, multi-sensory, and structured literacy approaches to support early reading and writing skills (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar programs).

● Integrate concrete, visual, and hands-on strategies to enhance mathematical understanding for students with dyscalculia.

● Apply proactive classroom management and executive functioning support for students with ADHD.

● Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

● Collaborate closely with learning specialists, counselors, and administrators to design individualized learning plans and ensure cohesive support.

● Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, providing insights on progress and strategies for at-home support.

● Contribute positively to the school community through participation in professional development, team meetings, and school events.

● Partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with Dyslexia and LD and teachers in their efforts to advance students with learning differences.

● Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges.

● Enthusiastic collaboration with the Grade level team.

● Direct one-on-one or small-group instruction.

● Prepare lesson plans

● Document progress, assist goals for students

● Developing and issuing educational content including notes, tests, and assignments.

● Supervising classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment.

● Organizing supplies and resources for lectures and presentations.

● Delivering personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.

● Planning and implementing educational activities and events.

● Ensuring your classroom is clean and orderly.

● Preparing and distributing periodic progress reports and semester report cards.

● Attending parent-teacher meetings.

● Evaluating and documenting students' progress.

● Allocating and grading homework, assignments, and tests.

● Work with parents, faculty, and division heads when academic concerns arise regarding students.

● Implement a focus on technology use and adoption within the School.

● Represent the school at educational conferences and associations.

● Participate in any accreditation process for the school.

● Attend all staff meetings and staff retreats.

● Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Lower School or the Head of School.

Education:

● Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (Master's Preferred)

● Valid teaching certification in Early Childhood or Elementary Education

Experience:

● Specialized training or experience in teaching students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and/or ADHD.

● Familiarity with structured literacy programs (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, etc.) strongly preferred

● Experience in independent schools, with a strong background in subject content

● Exceptionally capable in both written and oral communication

● Excellent organizational and presentation skills

● Technologically savvy

● Proven success at working collaboratively

● Passionate about early learning, differentiation, and building strong partnerships with families to support each student's growth and confidence.
