Street Maintenance Technician

Essential Job Functions
Maintain, repair, replace, and inspect streets and right of ways, which includes sidewalks and stormwater-related facilities such as basins, culverts, and other hydrologic infrastructure, and management and landscaping of vegetation in public areas (including mowing, herbicide application, cutting brush, etc.). Responsible for maintenance and repair of drainage systems in public right-of-ways, installation of signs, general grounds upkeep, and assisting with seasonal public events. Responsible for snow removal operations to maintain accessibility throughout the street network.
Provides prompt response to all street emergencies and assists with water or sewer emergencies to restore services to the community.
Responsible for maintaining work zones compliant with VDOT and municipal safety standards.
Operates heavy equipment safely and efficiently to include all required equipment, to complete all seasonal duties. Heavy equipment to include backhoe, dump trucks, street sweeper, rubber tire loader, mini excavator, skid steer, boom axe, tractors with implements, and vibratory rollers, and follow all safety protocols.
Will need to be able to work periodic rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.
Assists other crews as assigned, to include all divisions, and performs all other duties as assigned. Additional duties may be assigned that are related to the technician's specialties.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Valid Virginia driver's license, high school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Various materials, methods, and practices are essential to the maintenance and repair of streets, storm drainage, sidewalks, and related infrastructure. Some knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation, including safe driving practices and occupational hazards of the work. Ability to use the application of hand tools to perform essential functions. Basic understanding of specific computer programs relevant to the position. The ability to communicate effectively to understand instructions, and the capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force. Work regularly requires the ability to use the application of hand tools, reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, pushing, or pulling, and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Work requirements include effective communication; standard or corrective vision and hearing; operating machines, motor vehicles, or equipment; and observing general surroundings and activities. Duties regularly require exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor to climate-controlled environments, including heavy traffic with above-average noise exposure, working near moving mechanical parts, in confined spaces, and in high, precarious places. Some duties may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, bloodborne pathogens, toxic or caustic chemicals, potential risk of electrical shock, and exposure to vibration. Application of wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and all personal protective equipment (PPE) to comply with OSHA regulations and Town safety policies is necessary. Hepatitis B vaccines will be required.
The Town of Woodstock prioritizes the safety of employees first. All PPE will be provided to include training for the above outlined.
Special Requirements:
Valid commercial driver's license with Class B endorsement in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire. The Registered Technician for Pesticide Applicator certification through the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is to be acquired within one year of hire, and the VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Certification is
to be acquired within two years of hire

Pay: $ $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
