Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced detail-oriented Building and Electrical Inspector to perform inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for compliance with applicable Kentucky building, electrical, and safety codes. The ideal candidate will possess the certifications required by the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (DHBC) and demonstrate a strong commitment to public safety and code enforcement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of new and existing construction to ensure compliance with Kentucky Building Code (KBC), Kentucky Residential Code (KRC), and National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Review building and electrical plans, permits, and documentation for code compliance.
  • Inspect installation of electrical systems including service equipment, wiring methods, grounding, and load calculations.
  • Identify code violations, issue correction notices, and perform re-inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and generate detailed reports.
  • Provide guidance to contractors, engineers, and the public regarding code requirements.
  • Attend training and maintain required certifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (required); Associate degree or higher in construction management, electrical technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction, electrical work, or building inspection.
  • Must possess or obtain the following Kentucky DHBC certifications:
  • Building Inspector Level I or II
  • Electrical Inspector Level I or II
  • Valid Kentucky driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Kentucky Building Code (KBC)
  • Kentucky Residential Code (KRC)
  • National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Local zoning ordinances and construction practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ICC Certifications (e.g., Residential Building Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector)
  • Experience with computer software including Microsoft Office, GIS, and email
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and navigate construction sites.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • All candidates must pass a background check and drug screening.
