Job Summary

The Preventative Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all hotel systems, equipment, and guest rooms are maintained in excellent working order through proactive and scheduled maintenance. This position plays a key role in minimizing downtime, improving guest satisfaction, and maintaining compliance with brand and safety standards.

The Preventative Maintenance Engineer will execute daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance programs, complete room and system inspections, and document all findings and repairs. The role also includes responding to guest maintenance requests, assisting with minor repairs, and supporting the Chief Engineer in maintaining the overall facility in top operational condition.

Qualification Standards

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
     
  • Minimum 2 years of general maintenance or engineering experience; hotel experience strongly preferred.
     
  • Trade license or certification (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry) preferred.
     
  • Valid driver's license required with acceptable driving record.
     

Physical Requirements

  • Long hours may be required.
     
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
     
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and work in tight spaces throughout the shift.
     

Mental Requirements

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow preventative maintenance schedules precisely.
     
  • Must be effective in problem-solving, anticipating and preventing issues before they impact the guest experience.
     
  • Must remain calm and professional under pressure.
     
  • Strong communication and documentation skills required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance for guest rooms, public spaces, and building systems in accordance with Avion Hospitality and Hyatt Place standards.
     
  • Inspect and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, laundry, kitchen, and pool equipment to ensure proper operation.
     
  • Complete assigned PM checklists for guestrooms, including minor repairs such as caulking, touch-up paint, fixture adjustments, furniture maintenance, and appliance testing.
     
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection records, and work order documentation.
     
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards or maintenance deficiencies; assist in correcting issues promptly.
     
  • Respond to guest service requests and work orders quickly and courteously to minimize inconvenience.
     
  • Monitor and record chemical levels and operational status of pool and spa to ensure compliance with health codes.
     
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with fire safety, energy conservation, and OSHA standards.
     
  • Participate in hotel safety meetings and training sessions as required.
     
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and to brand quality standards.
     

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support property inspections and quality assurance audits.
     
  • Assist with snow removal, landscaping, and exterior maintenance as needed.
     
  • Maintain tool inventory and ensure proper use of equipment.
     
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
