San Mateo, California, United States Roblox Full time $289,460 - $338,270

Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.

At Roblox, we're building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We're on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you'll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

Join the Content Suitability team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of content on Roblox. Our team is at the forefront of building tools and systems that enable creators to launch diverse, age-appropriate experiences. By helping developers bring content like the 18+ launch to a global audience, we ensure Roblox remains a platform for people of all ages. Our work is deeply rooted in cutting-edge machine learning, where we develop and deploy sophisticated ML models essential for automated content review and policy enforcement.

This isn't just about good governance; it's about ensuring our creators can successfully launch their games everywhere. We help them seamlessly adapt content to local customs and regulations, preventing restrictions and ensuring a global reach for their work. Our efforts ensure the Roblox platform remains compliant with evolving regulations across all markets. This safeguards our diverse user base and, critically, prevents the platform from being restricted in key regions. You'll also contribute to our Content Policy Platform, empowering teams across Roblox to add and manage content access policies that are vital to our platform's integrity and safety.

You Will:

  • Define and own the long-term architectural strategy for the Content Policy Platform, ensuring it supports hyper-scale, low-latency, and high reliability.
  • Drive engineering excellence and operational rigor, establishing standards for performance, resilience, and maintainability across the domain.
  • Function as the primary technical leader, providing deep guidance and mentorship to engineers in the team.
  • Architect and oversee the productionization of advanced ML systems for content maturity labeling and real-time policy enforcement, ensuring robust scalability and observability.
  • Identify, mitigate, and resolve significant risks and technical debt, making strategic trade-off decisions.

You Have:

  • 8+ years of experience building and operating hyper-scale distributed systems.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture and tackling related scaling and reliability challenges.
  • Mastery in a modern OOP/Systems language (e.g., Go, Java, C++) with strong design principles.
  • Experience integrating complex ML/Data pipelines into high-throughput production services.
  • Proven ability to lead technical strategy and influence decisions across multiple engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or a related technical field.

You Are:

  • A Technical Leader: You have initiated and facilitated challenging technical solutions. Your technical expertise influences product direction. You nurture a culture of technical excellence.
  • Versatile: You're a generalist and you are comfortable with several languages and technologies already; you are adaptable in any situation. You are resourceful, and take a creative and strategic approach to solving hard problems.
  • Analytical: Excited to investigate large, ambiguous problems, and quantify the problems and the solutions.
  • User Oriented: You always start with the needs of the user, whether they are Roblox users or internal engineers before architecting a solution.
  • Team Oriented: You lift up your peers and find ways to make the team stronger.
