Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Epidemiologist
to join the CHAMPS network program. The role will focus on analyzing complex, multi-country datasets, including clinical, microbiology/molecular testing, demographic surveillance, and pregnancy surveillance data - to provide actionable insights for reducing child mortality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support CHAMPS Network-level epidemiologic analyses of CHAMPS datasets, including demographic, clinical, laboratory, and pregnancy data.
  • Maintain and enhance CHAMPS Network data quality by conducting regular audits and optimizing data processes.
  • Assemble and manage analytic datasets from multiple sources, ensuring harmonization across countries.
  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses using R and other tools, and prepare reproducible analytic pipelines.
  • Contribute to study design, protocol development, and methodological improvements for surveillance activities.
  • Write and co-author scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and policy briefs; present findings to national and international stakeholders.
  • Mentor and collaborate with junior epidemiologists, statisticians, and field teams across the CHAMPS Network.
  • Engage in cross-site collaborations within CHAMPS, contributing to comparative analyses across multiple countries.
  • Support CHAMPS Network data-to-action processes, ensuring findings inform public health interventions and policy decisions.
  • Expected international travel up to 4x a year.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field with
    at least four years of post-graduate epidemiology and data analysis experience
    , OR
  • Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field, OR
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.
  • Based in one of the CHAMPS sites: Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, or South Africa.

Required Abilities and Experience

  • Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in
    R
    for data management and statistical analysis.
  • Experience assembling and cleaning analytic datasets from multiple sources.
  • Experience leading or supporting analyses of clinical, microbiology/molecular, demographic surveillance, or pregnancy surveillance data.
  • Experience working with managing and analyzing surveillance data.
  • Experience with epidemiologic methods and study design.
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific publication development and co-authorship, including multiple first author papers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collegially in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with
    multi-country programs and datasets
    .
  • Experience with cause of death coding
  • Proficiency in evaluating sample representativeness and applying appropriate statistical adjustments. Familiarity with
    RMarkdown
    and
    GitHub
    for reproducible workflows.
  • Working knowledge of
    STATA
    .
