Job Position: Lead Packer

Job Location: Stone Mountain, GA

Reports To: Shift Production Supervisor

Job Summary:

Leads a team of 10-12 Packers and directly responsible for providing assistance to Packers that visually inspects, properly separates and packages finished products of cups, containers, straws, and lids. Inspects necessary tickets, performs line checks, and ensures customer demands are achieved based on targeted productivity efficiencies.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Organizes packaging duties and assigns Packers to specific bins during pre-shift meetings.
  • Trains existing and new Packers to be proficient in all associated duties, GMP, and safety procedures.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for Packers on lines (i.e., tape, bagging, stamp, labels, cartons, knockdowns, etc.).
  • Provides assistance and backup to Packers:
  • Constructs cardboard cartons to contain finished products manufactured, ensuring that proper carton is being utilized to hold products from bins.
  • Visually inspects product for proper print and seal through plastic bag or in bulk form prior to bagging. Periodically open random logs of product to perform close visual inspection.
  • Performs quality control by opening random bags of product to perform a close visual inspection along with notifying Production Leader or Production Equipment Operator immediately of any quality defects.
  • Packs product into cartons while ensuring that the correct number of bags of product is packed based on order specifications or manually counts the amount product going into the bag if hand-bagging.
  • Properly seal the carton and apply proper stamping and label(s) while making certain that stamp is legible and the correct code date is on each carton.
  • Move the packed cartons of finished product to the designed stacking area and then place the stacks
  • of cartons together in the correct configuration in preparation for pick-up by the forklift operator.
  • Sets aside defective product for re-work or scrapping while making certain that no defective product is shipped to the customer.
  • Assures a smooth flow of product through the packing process by responding to any product jams (bells, buzzers or lights), clearing the product jam and restarting the equipment properly and safely.
  • Follow safety procedures when starting, shutting down, un-jamming or tying the tail on a bagger.
  • Adheres to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements, and sanitation guidelines rectify and or report any and all non-compliance to leadership.
  • Assists other team members as required
  • Notifies leadership on needed repairs that are outside of their scope of responsibility or ability to repair.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner to include following specific procedures for lock-out/tag-out of equipment. Ensures Maintenance and/or leadership are aware of line issues.
  • Communicate with production supervisors on the status of line failures and repairs.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards by keeping a clean and safe work area at all times.
  • Follow all GMP and sanitation guidelines along with maintaining a high level of personal hygiene.
  • Attend meeting and training session as required.
  • Follows WinCup OPERA Values, safety initiatives, and other related plant standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Operations Manager, and/or other leadership team members.

Competencies:

  • Ability to follow directives with STM leadership, managers, supervisors, in ensuring productivity and target levels are sustained.
  • Ensures all company policies and procedures including manufacturing and safety policies and procedures are followed at all times.
  • Collaboration with plant, safety, and leadership.
  • Ability to complete mandated new manufacturing training on equipment to maximize output efficiencies.
  • Supports all current and new product introductions.

Education and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One to two years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Packaging in finished good preferred.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English in order to complete job specific paperwork.
  • Ability to work independently and function as a team member.
  • Good planning and organizing skills.
  • Work mandatory overtime, early morning, late evenings and weekends when required during busy season, inventory, and for vacation coverage.

Working Conditions:

  • In-doors in a manufacturing and/or environment that is not air-conditioned.

  • Exposure to extreme heat.

  • Wear PPE while working which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards.

  • Work a 12-hour shift that begins at 6:50 a.m. for dayshift or a nightshift that begins 6:50 p.m.

  • Required to work weekdays, weekends and overtime as needed.

  • Subject to on-call activity to ensure equipment is functional.

Physical Demands:

  • Work a 12-hour shift while standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping and lifting throughout the entire shift.

  • Requires the manual movement of cases of finished goods and other objects such as bagger film that weight up to 40 pounds.

  • 100% tobacco free workplace on all Company premises. Designated outside smoking area provided and must be followed.
