Automation Integration Engineer II
CLX Engineering seeks an experienced Automation Integration Engineer II with strong working proficiency in airport baggage handling systems. This role requires a rare blend of mechanical, electrical, software, and logistical understanding—applied with disciplined engineering principles. You'll work closely with airport customers, Project Management, and the Controls Engineering team to keep mission-critical systems running with precision. Calm under pressure, excellent service mindset, and clear communication are essential.
The ideal candidate can confidently troubleshoot and modify Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 PLCs, understands control panel design, and takes full ownership of tasks through completion. This role requires someone self-sufficient yet collaborative, capable of serving as the primary technical point of contact for airport customers while knowing when to involve additional engineering resources.
This is not an entry-level role. Candidates must bring 5+ years of hands-on automation experience, especially with Allen-Bradley PLC programming. You should expect to demonstrate your technical competencies during the interview process.
This position is based in Atlanta with frequent travel to project sites as needed.
CLX Engineering cannot sponsor visas. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
Requirements:
Responsibilities:
- Design, install, and maintain PLC-based electrical control systems per client specifications and industry standards.
- Create and modify system designs, including electrical layouts and wiring schematics.
- Program, troubleshoot, and upgrade PLC hardware and software (primarily Allen-Bradley).
- Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Collaborate with project teams and mentor junior team members.
- Travel occasionally to the CLX headquarters or domestic airport project sites.
- Work in demanding physical environments—navigating ladders, confined spaces, low lighting, temperature variations, and obstacles as needed.
Requirements:
- Strong engineering foundation with proven abilities in critical thinking, decision-making, documentation, and problem-solving.
- 5+ years of automation experience, specifically with Allen-Bradley PLC programming.
- Experience supervising or leading controls engineers and/or vendors.
- Ability to remain stationary for up to 50% of the workday and navigate airport or industrial environments for extended periods.
- Strong written, verbal, and phone communication skills; high attention to detail; strong follow-through and ownership.
- Experience with airport baggage handling systems (BHS).
- BSEE, E.T., or a related technical degree.
- AutoCAD experience, especially electrical drafting.
- Scheduling and estimating experience.
